i don't think so..maybe if you send your invites out a month early, like in late march? i sent out stds but I'm getting married labor day weekend...

I think it's up to you if you want to spend the money. If not, you could always send out STD emails. I know the knot has this feature.

I'm not sending out STD, but I emailed my friends and called family members to let them know the date we decided on and where so they can start planning. We'll also send out our invites in March.

I feel like its not necessary I don;t want to bombard people with mail. I think if it was a destination wedding or if it was on a holiday weekend then it would pay to do so, but there are so many things that I have to do still this is like the last thing on my mind.

We did, but mainly because we had a lot of out of towners that were going to have to make plane and hotel reservations. If this is not the case for you, it probably isn't necessary.

we didn't bother with them.. out of town family already knows when the date is and anyone else who doesn't already know probably won't be coming anyway or they live close enough where they wouldnt need to know months and months in advance.

I'm not... I am sending my invites out about a week or two earlier than "normal".

It depends!

If you are hvaing a lot of people from out of town, you might want to give them a save the date as a heads up and include hotel info.

This can also be accomplished in a nice email inviting people to see your wedding webpage (Wedding Channel.com has nice wedding webpages to give out exactly this info, where and when, hotels, registires , photos and pics of how the two of you met). if you have a lot of younger people who are computer savvy then you can defintie;y just make a quickie info page and invite them to it via email.

Generally STDs are not neccesary except for OOT guests and holiday weekends, but it depends on your family also. In my family people almost always send STDs for a formal wedding, so it's kind of expected. I'm going to send them b/c I think it's an op[portunity to send out something fun, not so formla like my invites will be, and it gives our many OOT people time to plan. I want to make sure that everyone can get the time off that they need. Some people need to put in for vacation 6 mos in advance, so I'm going to accomodate for that, especially since my wedding is near christmas

I think it's totally up to you, and fon't forget that if you want to send a STD there are lots of options, a cute self desgned email, an eamil leading to a webpage, a simple custom postcard, magnets, etc.

I'm going to send it out around christmas/hanukkah a year before and tell people that next year theyll be celebrating the holidays with US! If more of our guests were jewish, I might have sent hanukkah candles with it something, or make it a photo on carstock and put a string through it as an xmas ornament. Those are ideas for my season, but there are plenty of ideas you can come up with to match your theme that don't have to be expensive and they don't have to be a bombardment of mail

Sending a note to out-of-towners is a good thing to do so that they can book cheap fares and/or make plans for the time away from home. This doesn't have to be something fancy, it can be just a letter printed on your own computer.

I dont think it necessary, unless you have a lot of friends and family that are out of town and you dont talk to that often. Or you can always just send out the invites a little early.

I wasn't planning to send save-the-date announcements, since I am inviting at most 150 people, most of which I can contact by phone or by email.

Like someone said before: send your invites three to four weeks earlier or try contacting them now via email or phone --just my thought.

Usually, people say to send them out if the wedding is over a holiday weekend.
