Moving to North Carolina....
My FH and I are going to NC in March to check out houses and hopefully buy.... (LI is WAY out of budget) Is anyone else considering North Carolina? If so, where? We're looking into Cary, NC it's supposed to be beautiful. If so, where have you been looking at houses? We've been to newhomes.com and found a bunch, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I haven't been to NC, but FI's BM is from there and just moved back. He's always raving about Ashville for affordability, things to do, culture, etc.

friends of mine moved to Wilmimgton after they got married, and they love it. I have been down many times to visit. Its right on the water, so it reminds me of LI, and very affordable!

I answered the other thread, but I thought I would get in on this one.
I second Wilmington. (I'm biased though.) But it's definitly not a "city" like Charlotte. More like a big, friendly town.
What kind of work do you do - that may help dictate the location.

My sister's best friend moved to NC after she got married. I'm not sure where they moved to. But they found it was cheaper (and beneficial) to buy land and build new, so that's what they did! And, I must add, they couldn't be happier!

My FH and I were in Cary, Morrisville, Chapel Hill, Apex, Raleigh 2 weeks ago. The areas are very nice and Cary is basically another extension of NY - only without the high cost of living and traffic 
We liked it very much, but the locals are so funny with the weather.... they were predicting rain and they closed the schools and churchs!!!
I can't wait to go and start over. we'll have to make a new forum for "LI Brides who relocated to NC"

There is a town in NC called New Bern and I heard there are alot of "misplaced" Long Islanders.

My sister in law lives in Cary and LOVES it. Her house would be a house worth over 1 million dollars up here in New York. It is still a consideration of DH and I but not right now. I wish you luck, it's a beautiful city.
The only thing I didn't like was that it's very much inland. it's around 2-3 hours to the beach.

Great to hear!!! The houses in Cary are gorgeous! I'd love to be by the water, but I am terrified of hurricanes and they get alot, that's why we're concentrating more inland. But I don't really go to the beach here on Long Island and I am 5mins. away so I should be okay.
Not too mention, I am very fair skinned... nobody wants to see my white a$$ on the beach anyway! :) Haha

I looove Wilmington!!! My bf lived there for four years and visited a few times and it is beautiful, inexpensive, and so much fun! My FI refuses to live anywhere outside of LI though bc he is trying to get on some Police Department or another, but you are so lucky-- so much less stress there!

ALL of my friends have recently moved ther or are moving there :( I think its the new Florida. NC sounds great. Theyre all going towards Raleigh and Charlotte. just check it out!! Seems great!
