Donations instead of favors.
we are making a donation in leiu of favors for our wedding .. How exactly do we word the notices that are placed on the tables? if anyone has done this, any advice on wordage is greatly appreciated.

I found this wording somewhere and modified it for us....
To Our Family and Friends,
With much thought and consideration, we have chosen a special way to say “Thank You” for sharing our wedding day with us.
In lieu of a traditional wedding favor, we have made donations to
The American Cancer Society
And the
American Heart Association.
These donations are made in your honor as a tribute to
Adrienne and Robert _______.
We feel the finest gift is one, which helps others live longer and healthier lives.
We truly appreciate your being
part of our lives and this special day.
All our love,
Alison and Joe

We are donating to the Alzheimer's Foundation and they will provide me with cards to give to the guests. Perhaps you should contact your charity and ask if they have a "form letter" you can copy.

We are giving a donation to St. Judes Childrens Hospital and they make up really nice cards for you to place on the tables.

would it be strange to do 2 charities??
I wanted to do one that was important to FI's fam (americanheart.org) and one for my fam (nmss.org).
think I'm spreading to thin?

You can put them on regular paper and place each one in a frame on the table or one large frame and place it on the placecsrd table.

I never felt comfortable with the "in lieu of" phrasing .. reminds me too much of when someone has passed away.
And in my opinion, those kinds of explanations seem like apologies for no favors. And that's just not right .. a wedding is a celebration .. not for guests to expect a favor.
Just be straight forward that a donation was made .. there should be no reason anyone should feel they need to explain they did a donation instead of a "traditional" favor.
Donations are becoming more and more popular anyway .. so they're becoming their own tradition.
At our wedding, we did a donation, but also a custom CD. We had cards from the foundation we donated to that said a donation had been made to them in honor of our guests .. and the inside of the jewel case insert explained the foundation. The envelopes of the cards served as the place cards, and we used the gold elastic to bind the cards to the CDs.

No, thank you for asking! He had chemo for a whole year and has now been clear of cancer for almost 2 years. He just turned 6 
Here he is with his Mom, my MOH.

Just to throw another idea out there. I started doing the scrolls but when I was in Michaels I saw these note cards and tried something different. I like the idea of personalizing each envelope.

Okay..what word can replace in leiu of ?
And if you have 2 people you are tributing these donations to , one has passed and the other is alive and fighting her ilness how do you word that without it sounding like both are passed on?

Yes, they will send you all kinds of samples of cards and styles. They are very helpful. Go to the ACS website and you can email the girl from there.
