would you let a friend do your wedding make-up?
Ughhhhh. . . I don't know what to do about this one. One of my BMs just called to let me know that her sister would LOVE to give me the "gift" of doing my make-up on my wedding day.
Now, her sister is a "make-up artist" and does make-up for weddings, but her style is definitely not my style. In fact she did my make-up when I was a BM for her sister. And in the pictures I look like a ghost!!!! (foundation was too light I guess).
My BM insists that her sister would listen to me and make sure that I'm happy, but I'm worried. I feel like I won't be able to get my way with the "friend" and "favor" aspect of it.
Has anyone had to deal with "friend favors" on their wedding day?
Any suggestions about how to deal with this?
thanks!

If it's going to save a lot of money, it might be a good idea. But I would insist on a trial or tow, even if you pay her for that. If you don't like what she's doing, you're going to have to be honest and thank her for her gracious offer but that you're just not on the same page in what you both think looks good.

Re: would you let a friend do your wedding make-up?
One of my friends is a film student at USC, one of the best film schools in the country. She offered to do my videography but, like you, her style isn't mine. So, I said to her that I really appreciated the offer and it was incredibly generous of her but I'd rather that she come to the wedding and enjoy the day as my guest rather than being put to work. Maybe you could say something similar to your friend?

I would say go for it, just do the trial first. This way you can nit pick at what you like and dont. Then your wedding day makeup will look beautiful because it is ultimately what YOU want!

Re: would you let a friend do your wedding make-up?
I did have a friend do my makeup, mainly because I just couldn't see spending the $. Also, when I have had it done by a professional, it seemed too much for me. Perhaps you could do a trial with her, but bring products you use already, that you know work well for you (the colors that you feel look good with your skin tone, etc.) What I did was use the eyeliner, mascara and foundation I normally used and splurged on a new lipstick and eye shadow that would look a bit more dramatic. It worked out well for me!

Re: would you let a friend do your wedding make-up?
I had a friend do mine after paying for two "professional" trials. My friend is a manager of a cosmetics department and we did about three trials before my wedding day so she knew exactly what I wanted. If you look at my photos you'll see that I hae a lot less makeup on than many other birdes, but that's what I wanted. In retrospect I could have had a little more, but the professional trials made me feel like a hooker!

I think it wouldn't hurt to have a trial and to talk to her about what look YOU like. Then go from there. If she can't do it the way you want though, I would just be honest and tell her the look you are going for doesn't fit into her style. Good Luck!

mixing friends and wedding favors = bad.
sorry, it may not be this way for everyone, but i have seen it be an absolute equation for disaster and alot of hurt feelings.

Re: would you let a friend do your wedding make-up?
My friend at work did, and it was one of the biggest mistake of her life... And the girl was a professional. Only if you are completely confident with her style, and you get a trial.
