Photographer VENT!!! (kinda long)
So listen to this....
I was SUPER excited to see this photographer. His work I have seen online is AMAZING and I just couldn't wait... we have had this appt since last week!
So MOH and I get there and he invites us in and asks me what I want... so I tell him I would like to see some of his work first, so he hands us an album, and usually at this point the photog starts to sell himself, telling us about him, about the photos we are looking at etc... well what does he do? He starts doing paper work and typing away at his computer!! He then answers phonecalls and checks his voicemail... I was kind of suprised, but whatever...
So then, all of a sudden someone comes in to pick up their proofs... the photog completely leaves us to go handle money and other issues for these people, and this wasn't a suprised visit it looked like the photog was expecting these people! Silly me thought when you have an appt with someone you actually sit with them to discuss wedding stuff....
So finally he comes back to us and was like, so, you have any questions? So MOH and I are pulling random questions out (he still hasnt volunteered any informaiton about himself).. and then he asks us to leave a deposit tonight!!! I told him I had to discuss it with FI first... he then got so pushy telling me that it is 100% refundable and then asked me like 5 times when I would like to set up my next appt for! How many different ways can I tell him I need to talk to FI first?!?
It gets even better! He asks me who else we looked at so far so I tell him and he starts knocking them because some use all digital and how dare anyone do that? digital is such poor quality blah blah blah and then starts telling me nightmere stories about photographers loosing data from there cameras because you just cant trust technology! and how anyone who charges less then him are not decent photographers because you can't make any money on charging anything less....
The man didnt ask me one question about my wedding... like if i want to see the groom before hand, where I was getting dressed and then on our way out hands be this 3-page print out telling me why it is completely necessary to see the groom before the ceremony and how stupid it is to wait until after! URGH!!! I feel very strongly about waiting to see him as I walk down the aisle!
I couldn't believe what a rude, pushy jerk this guy was! So disappointing because his work is beautiful! Bad experience! Sorry this was so long! I just had to get it out!

WOW, this guys sounds extremely unprofessional. First of all, it's none of his business to ask which other photographers you're interested in. Second of all, to trash them they way he did is very childish and unbecoming. No matter how great this guys pictures are, there's no way I would work with someone who handles his business that way. I'm sorry you had to deal with such a jerk!

Wow....that's nuts. Sounds like he was more concerned with his business than your wedding. Not a smart businessman to say the least. Curious to know who it is. Anyway at least you know the photog meetings can only get better than this. Good Luck to you.

And besides that... digital photo is as good if not better than film (for color anyway not black and whites)

ythanks girls! ou just made me feel better! ... Im so suprised by how unprofessional he was... especially since he has gotten some great reviews from LIW brides! I wonder if he is always like that... or if it was just me?!
plus i want digital so i can make my own albums! (im too poor at the moment to get the nice leatherbound ones)

Oh..this sounds familiar! My FH and I visited a photographer and had the exact experience. I would bet on it being the same person you visited!
We walked out and booked Duet the next day.  We are very excited to have them for our photo/video! You should check them out if you haven't already.

This is a horrible story. Isn't it amazing how some vendors act like total jerks and forget that WE'RE paying them? I mean, no one's doing us any favors, so you're actually interviewing him, would you ever act like that in a job interview? Horrible! And the worst part, the part I hate the most, when they bad mouth other vendors. No one should ever do that! Ugh! Sorry you went through that, you'll find much better ones.

I just compared notes with some other brides and it turns out I'm not the only one that had this experience with him!! I wish I knew beforehand... everything I found on him was great!
at least now I can look back and laugh at this!

Hopefully, he'll change his attitude or he'll just keep losing business!
One of the photographers I met with (a VERY popular one) also slammed other vendors and it totally turned me off. I didn't book with them for other reasons, but that was definitely the cherry on the cake.

I am so sorry you had this experience. Look elsewhere!!!! I had a very similar experience and I think I know who the person is.
Remember, you have to be comfortable with the person (s) who are doing work for you that day!!!

I know exactly who you are talking about. We had that EXACT experience. Needless to say, didn't go with him. I agree his pics were gorgeous, but we didn't want to deal with the sales tactics and lack of attention we received on our first visit. I was also really annoyed that after about 3-4 phonecalls and a first visit, he had no recollection of our meetings/conversations when I went back the 2nd time (No, I don't know why I went back--glutton for punishment).
