No - I have heard of it but I think $550 is quite enough for 20 minutes of his time!

Re: spinoff of tipping post

I think the pastor would be offended if we did something like that. It seems weird to me to tip an officiant.

we're paying $500 for a mass, and I think that's a lot.

Re: spinoff of tipping post

Im not as well. I think my officiant would be tremendously offended if I tried to tip him. Not only that I am paying for him to fly here from New Orleans and Im putting him up in a hotel. I think thats plenty.

That's a really good question. I am getting married at the reception hall. Should I tip the Pastor?

Re: spinoff of tipping post

I don't think they will accept tips. Before I found a church I was getting married at my CH and asked a pastor if a tip was necessary and he told me that he couldn't accept a tip, but could accept a donation toward his church. Weddings are expensive enough.

Re: spinoff of tipping post

Normally they won't accept tips but friends of mine have given them gifts. For example, one of my friends got her priest a few rounds of golf.

I think it depends what type of relationship you have with them. I thought about this since our officiant is also the pastor of the Unitarian Church we are now attending.

Re: spinoff of tipping post

we are doing this as well....although it's a "tip"...they sort of expect it. Plus we have to pay stewardship to the church ($365) for 2005 and 2006.

I'm paying $500 for the 20 min deal also and extra for musician. Definately not tipping the priest. As for the donation to the church thing, mine is in the baket every week. Not to sound harsh honest!!
