BUMMED!! New job and working christmas eve, christmas AND NEW YEARS EVE!!!

I feel like I'm pledging a freakin sorority here.

I work at a hospital.

A lottery was drawn for Christmas (working 4- midnight)

In addition, I was "selected" as one of the ones to work 4-midnight on new years eve!
I'm getting married in 2005 and won't even be able to be with my FH for the new year.

In addition I'm working Christmas eve.

I won't see my family this year (that's very busy throughout the year) and I'M FREAKING PISSED!

No one will do a switch.

HOW CAN I BE THIS UNLUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would do you no good to get all pissed off so let me do it for you.....there should have been some accomodation made since you happened to be "selected" for BOTH christmas eve AND Christmas Day. GIVE THE GIRL A BREAK SHE'S GETTING MARRIED...ok...I feel better now :)

Re: BUMMED!! New job and working christmas eve, christmas AND NEW YEARS EVE!!!

I definitely feel your pain!! DH is a paramedic at a hospital and just the way the holidays fell this year are all on days that are on his normal schedule - he worked THanksgiving, is working a double on Christmas Eve /Christmas and was supposed to work New Year's - he was able to get someone to work for him for NY's though!!

That seems completely unfair that you got picked in the lottery twice - you already got picked for Christmas -that should be it - your name shouldn't go back in for New Years!!!

That stinks......- But unfortunately happens when you work in a hospital.
My cousin is an EMT and ALWAYS seems to get stuck Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Years.....
My other cousin is a 4th year resident. - last year we met her up @ the hospital and broght her dinner ......We were only allowed to stay for like 10 minutes......but she was happy !

I'm so sorry. FH has to work all those nights as well and it really sucks that I won't be able to spend time with him. He's acting like he doesn't care, but I can tell that it bothers him that he can't spend the holidays with our families. I don't have to work on Christmas, but it's not going to be the same without him there.

That sucks!! Since you work 4-12 that night, maybe you can have an early dinner with your family? Thats what I did last year, I had to work at 7 pm on Christmas Day. That is unfair how they assigned the staff to work the holidays. I work in a hospital too, and they had us choose whether or not we wanted to work christmas or new years, and I chose to work new years. Are you in a union hospital? I believe according to the union rules (NYSNA and 1199 do this), they cannot make you work both Christmas AND New Years.

That does suck. I get that people with seniority get preferential treatmnet, but how come they don't' split it up, like if you work Christmas day, you dont' work Christmas eve. My husband works in a hospital, but for the computer services departmetnt, so they don't have to be there, just on call & they even alternate who is on call. He did Thanksgiving, so he doesn't have to do Christmas or New Years.

Phewy! That really stinks! Not nice that no one will help you out either. They really should not have you working all those shifts.
