Tipping officiant not affiliated with a church?

We are using an interfaith minister not affiliated with a church. Should we tip him? Normally I would just do an extra church donation...TIA!

We did. We gave it to our officiant at the rehearsal dinner. I looked at a couple of etiquette books and websites and they all recommended tipping the officiant. The average suggested tip was $100 and up. Hope this helps.

We did not. Our officiant is in business for herself so she got the whole $500. Why tip on top of that.

Again....Tipping is out of control. OK off my soapbox now.

Re: Tipping officiant not affiliated with a church?

We didn't - though I had meant to give him something. We just forgot to get an envelope ready for him and he basically took off RIGHT after the ceremony. He came back to the bridal suite where we were and said good luck and good by and said "everything is taken care of". So DH and I weren't sure what that meant, but neither of us had cash on us. We thought maybe my dad or FIL gave him something, but as far as we know, no one did. And I feel bad, he was so nice and was so good about working with us.
