Do you really think someone would get offended...I mean even if they were not taking the fh's name, its just the thought of recognizing them that is there?

I agree w/Sandy & Ben. I was pretty annoyed (although I understood that it all came from a good place) when virtually all our cards were made out to Mr & Mrs Hisfirstname Hislastname, and would not have been pleased to see people assume that I was taking my husband's last name at weddings we had attended prior to our own (indeed, after our own!).

Barakabella - What are in those cute fortune tellers from sonic stef designs? Do they have happy fortunes for the bride and groom? They are really adorable - I am curious as to what they say inside.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?

I am going to try and attach the original picture from stef. It is a version of the fortune teller we used to do in grade school -- you know fold the paper, stick your fingers and then open a certain number of times. There are instructions and you put your fingers in it and find your fortune. You can customize it to say anything -- ours said things like request a song, get on the dance floor...and were a hit. Sonicstef herself, and others have used them in glass bowls as part of CH but given our color scheme, we liked the ide of them at each place setting and they were darling. We also had black and white table cameras which we put on favor tags in our colors of dark red and plum -- the theme of black and white with dark plum and dark red accents was striking so these fit right in with the starkly colored flowers.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?

More pics
1: is from the band -- love that shot by our wonderful photographer
2: are the monogrammed cards to sign for wishbowl--same monogrammed tags on the black and white cameras on each table and around ch tables.
3: Chuppah brought in by people we love -- so full of meaning for us
4: Monogrammed programs with rich dark red silk ribbon, detailed all the little special things -- like the story of the tradition of putting ring on second finger, why we picked to use each item that we had, to let all of the guest share in what was an intimate experience.
That is the feedback we get, that the wedding invited you to come with us and share our joy, and that is exactly what we had planned for.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?

My pleasure -- I guess I really want to share my experience with brides who are trying to figure this stuff out -- I remember being there! Little things that are so special - don't need to take incredibly large amounts of work or ridiculous amounts of money. We made the monogrammed cards for the wishbowl (which we got on clearance on Martha Stewart for $10) two days befroe wedding; same for hanging tags on the B+W cameras. Folks loved B+W(black and white) table cameras for drama--and the pix are really great. What I also learned what that it is not good to stint when you figure out those things that really matter to you. People would not believe what I spent on the custom ketubah and engraved invites and programs, but I adore them and they made me happy so a great splurge for me.

Most of all we loved how it was an occassion that reflected us. Our loves, our families, our passion for living, and the unique aspects of our travel. Family was such an important part of the day as they are to us in life. And I would say that is my take home point -- let the little details merely be a reflection of who you are as individuals and as a new family and then everything becomes so meaningful.

Things that were a little different at our wedding.

1. DH and I wanted someone that knew us to marry us. So, we had our friend ordained online and he married us.

2.We wrote our entire ceremony.

3. Our programs were designed like show playbills. We had headshots and bios for us, our parents and the entire BP. They were a hit.

4. Our RD invitations were theatre tickets.

5. We named the tables after shows we had done since we have been together.

6. I handed my Bo-K to a friend that was getting married a week later in the exact same place.

7. Our ceremony music was a song written by a friend and was sung accaplla by 6 of our friends.

Those were just some of the things we did to make our wedding tailored to us. I am not sure that they are that different, but they all went over well.

That sounds AWESOME. I think I'm stealing that program idea, if you don't mind!

ETA: That's exactly the kind of wedding I wish i could find a way to pull off. We'll see!

I'm thinking of having a lemonade stand(free, of course) set up by some neighborhood kids outside the church since it will be a hot day in the middle of July.

- At one wedding we went to, we found our names on the seating chart and our names said "The Future Mr. and Mrs. XXXX" rather than just saying "Mr. John Smith and Ms. Melissa Doe." For all engaged couples at the wedding, the bride and groom had their names listed as "The Future Mr. and Mrs." on the seating chart. This was such a pleasant surprise for us to see as an engaged couple.

Please please please be careful about this one. Not everyone takes their husband's name and you may end up offending someone rather than flattering them. Ask the couple first and then if you are sure, I mean 100% sure, then this is a very cute idea. Just my two cents.

After reading the above, I was gonna do this...

Do you really think someone would get offended...I mean even if they were not taking the fh's name, its just the thought of recognizing them that is there?

I am not taking FI's name. I am completely staying the same. But I would not be offended.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?

1. I walking down the aisle with my mom and step-father

2. FH is going to meet his parents half way down the aisle so they can walk him down to the altar

3. I am thinking of handing out Candy Apples after dinner

4. I am making Candy Bags for all of the kids

5. My cocktail hour centerpieces are going to be Tri-Fold towers. The center will have Cinderella and Prince Charming along with our names and wedding date, one side will have "how we met" and the third side will have "how he proposed"

6. We are dedicating a song to our Bridal Party. "I Hope You Dance" by: Leann Womack

7. Instead of 1 Best Man and 1 MOH, we are having 2 couples of honor. Our Best Man and his wife and my MOH and her husband. We will be giving the husbands garters and presenting the wive's with a gift of some sort.

I am undecided on taking his name, but I am offended when people ASSUME that's what I'll do.

In general I don't really like that seating chart/placecard idea. We are who we are now. I don't need it advertised that we will be married in the future. It's not as if we need married to validat our realtionship validates our relationship or that our relationship needs to be validated to anyone.

But I know, some people like the whole future Mr. & Mrs . . .thing.

I really like the lemonade stand idea though.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?

We didn't do anything expensive, but people do notice the little details.

- three of our parents are deceased, so we included their names in the responsorial psalm during the wedding ceremony

- rose petals everywhere! On the tables, the counter in the ladies' room, the water in the fountain - anywhere we could put them, we did. It does not cost that much and adds such a romatic touch. Many people commented on how much they loved that.

- we gave away our entire centerpiece, including a candelabra. It seemed really expensive but they were less expensive than most others we were considering. The guests seemed impressed with that.

- my DH did a brother/sister dance with his sister, and halfway through the song the DJ had all the other brothers/sisters/BILs/SILs join in. That was a big hit.

- anniversary dance! Most people at my wedding had never seen it, and everyone loved it. It was very emotional and the applause for the last couple was amazing.

- we had the extra wedding cake boxed for guests to take home. They took every single piece - we didn't even get one!

At other weddings I went to..

- at a very late night wedding (I think we left around 3-3:30AM) - we were given bagels and the Sunday paper to take home

- the trumpeters who announced each guest as they arrived

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?

i am taking polaroids of each guest instead of having them sign a guestbook. later i will turn all of the polaroids into a scrapbook.

also for placecards, i am going to take polaroids of beautiful places around the city. this is going to be quite a feat!

but half the wedding party is coming from out of town so i think they'll really like it.

all the weddings i've been to have been pretty standard... this is a great thread!

At a recent wedding I went to the couple was going to Italy for their honeymoon. So each off the tables were named with places in Italy on their itinery. They also had a speciality drink list with special drinks from italy!! Very nice touch.

I went to a wedding on a yacht and the centerpieces were fishbowls with beautiful fish in them, I loved it, don't think I would do that for my day but I thought it was awesome and so in keeping with the theme of the wedding

One of my friends just told me this one:
Her friend stuck a rubber chicken in her garter so when her husband went to get it he came out with the chicken!
My FH wants to do that but I think the point was not just making everyone else laugh but also suprising hubby...

I love the idea of having floating flower buds all over the place for a spring wedding-as if everything is blooming for your day.

With my vineyard theme, I was going to do little buds in all different sized wine glasses.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?

We are going to have various little touches as such as injecting a little bit of a Caribbean theme in. Calypso band, place cards in a pan on like light blue glass/rocks (will look like water), as well as we are not going to give favors. Instead we are going to place a card on each table that simply states "In lieu of favors a donation has been made to the breast cancer association"

My friend got enaged on the Eiffel Tower so they had a 5' ice sculpture of the eiffel tower, tables names after street in Paris, mini-eiffel tower chocolates at each table. She also had her second graders draw wedding related pictures and had one wrapped in a scroll at eaach place setting. They were SO cute!

What is the anniversary dance?

All married couples dance, as the band or DJ counts down the years married - less than one, five years, ten years, etc. When it gets down to a few couples, the years go by single years until one couple is left - the couple married the longest. We gave our couple a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine, and the DJ asked them for advice for the newlyweds.
