Re: going to a wedding tonight at Brooklyn Botanic Garden......
OMG, I'm so upset for that bride! It's such a beautiful place and no one will be able to go outside!
But have fun and take pics! That would have been my #1 choice if it was in my budget - I grew up around there!

Re: going to a wedding tonight at Brooklyn Botanic Garden......
The wedding was gorgeous.....unfortunately, i wasn't, because we forgot an umbrella.....and we had to walk up the entire pathway to get to the building.....so we were soaked. Luckily, we met some people also going to the wedding on our way along the path, and they shared their umbrellas with us.......sweet little angels that they were
So, the wedding......the room where the had the ceremony was beautiful - glass celing (some rain leaked though, but not a huge amount....although it did get the best man as he was walking around beforehand) The staff was very nice there, and directed us where we needed to go. The only problem was that the room was freezing cold.....and we were soaked, so it made it even colder!
The cocktail hour was in a different room, downstairs.....the food was delicious!!! It was an Italian feast of so many delicacies....and eachone of them was great. They had people walking trays of food around as well - the shrimp were HUGE!!! I didn't have any, but DH was drooling everytime they passed us. Really yummy food. and plenty of it!
We also got a chance to walk around and see the rooms with the plants in them, that were all off of the cocktail hour room...which was a nice treat. The only problem with the cocktail hour room was that it was too hot....we went into the desert room and it was cooler! But we weren't in there for that long, so it was ok.
Then we went back upstairs to the main room where the ceremony was for the reception.....my god, it looked beautiful at night. you couldn't really see that it was raining as much once it got dark, and the glass ceiling was lined with strings of lilghts...stunning.
They had also chosen high centerpieces, which was a good idea because the tables were small and kind of crowded, and there were spotlights on each of the centerpieces to light them up. Really made the room look beautiful.
There were a couple of times I found myself just looking around the room thinking how pretty it looked.
The food was very good as well. Dinner was a choice of swordfish or filet mignon, DH and I each got one and the traded half so we could try them both - the filet was better than the swordfish......it was really really good...and a nice size piece. i only ate half of it, and i was full.
They also served a salad first, which was probably the best salad i've ever had....it was lettuces, with some sort of a balsamic dressing, and then it had grapes, strawberries and grapefruit in it....MMMMMMMMMMM, I ate it all up!
After the salad, came a crabcake - wow.....couldn't it the whole thing becuase it was really filling...but i would have loved to! and dessert was a little martini glass with three kinds of sorbet in it.....mango, raspberry and something else which i can't remember...and fruit. really good.
The bride looked radiant...but since you don't know her, that wouldnt' mean much to all of you...she brought tears to my eyes when she was walking down the aisle becuase she is the tiniest little thing, and she had to walk the aisle alone because her father passed away a few years ago....she chose yesterday to get married because it was his birthday, so she wanted him to be there in some way. So, seeing her tiny little body walking down all alone, which I know must have taken so much strength on her part....it brought tears to my eyes...and I rarely cry at weddings. Very touching.
So, all in all, it was a great wedding. THe place was beautiful....I've never been there before, so it was a great experience for me. Even though it took us two hours to drive there from Glen Cove (28 miles away) - I love Friday afternoon traffic in the rain in Brooklyn!!!!!
