Need Advice and Opinions about changing our date.(LONG) UPDATE!!

Edited to Update :)

Okay so after talking with everyone, it looks like the new wedding date will be "drum roll please" Sunday Sept 18, 2005. Our BM was the best, it's only gonna cost us about $5 more per person which ends up being $500 more not $1000, so everything worked out well.. Thanks girls as always for your support and advice !!!

Okay FH & are fighting about changing the wedding date.

Background: I am having surgery and realize there is no way I will be ready by our May date. SO we are trying to figure out when the next best time will be.

SO we thought fall 05 would be the next best time

Sept: we both like it, but the swan club says we will pay almost $1000 more for sept, which to me makes no sense to pay 1000 more for the same wedding just cause we want sept..

Oct: I like it, he hates it.. his reason, cause it's an ugly month... okay real good reason honey.. urgh! another plus for this month our rates stay the same at the swan club

Nov: I am open to it, he's so-so, my concern is it will deeper into fall, and the one reason we choose the swan club is for it's ground and I just think it will start to look too bare.

Dec: Would be my dream wedding since I am a true Christmas spirit! and FH would love this time of year too. MAJOR CONCERNS: 1 is it's holiday time and neither one of our families are rich, I don't want to put a financial burden on people, especially his family since all but a handful will have to travel for our wedding, around holiday time. 2 is the weather, 95% of his family is from Ohio, it starts to snow there at the end of oct, and the weather is something that can go either way, what if they get snowed in and almost 1/2 of my guest list is a no so cause of the weather.. his parents would be sooo disappointed (FH is not close to his extended family at all, honestly he'd be more upset for his parents than himself..)

I need advice and or opinions, I plan on having FH read this thread so be honest, if you think I should just spend the 1000 extra you can say that.. lol

Thanks!!!!
~Jen

I'm partial to OCTOBER only because I love that time of year. Christmas may be a hard time for your family. The prices to travel go SKY high during that month. I think your best bet would be Oct/Nov or you'll have to pay more for Sept.

Sorry if I wasn't much help.

We had the same fight - FI wanted September but it was to expensive. I wanted November and he wanted October. I dont think October is an ugly month because you still have a chance for Indian Summer, all the leaves are falling and the colors would be great. It can be "warm" through November with the need only for a light jacket. And in NY is always gorgeous around Halloween - I never remember it being ugly.

First, best wishes on your surgery and recovery.

Second, October is NOT an ugly month - it's my favorite month of the entire year! I would have gotten married in Oct. in a heartbeat, but we wanted a 3 day weekend.

Then again, if September is your #1 choice, you do have time to save that extra $1000.

You can't really go wrong with any of your options!

I agree... Oct is a beautiful month & I have been to the Swan in Oct..the grounds are still gorgeous.

Try to negotiate with the Swan Club..... it makes no sense to me that Sept is more costly than May????????? Maybe if you let them know why you need to change it they can work something out.

I had my wedding in Jan & it was kinda difficult for some of my oot-ers. also it was 6 degrees!!!!

Early November is beautiful! I'm partial (my date is the 6th). I'm sure the Swan Club has seasonal flowers the plant for all seasons. You should ask them how it looks then. The other idea, is if you can wait to change the date, why not go there this October, November, etc. and check it out.

Hope your surgery is not serious. Good luck!

Maybe the Swan Club will negotiate with you if you do late September or early October? I went there for an event on the first Sat. of last October & it was SOOO beautiful!! All the grounds were still so well kept & the fall colors had not set it yet!

ETA - Oh! When I met with one of the recomended photographers from Fox Hollow they had a sample book of a wedding at Fox Hollow - wrong room - BUT mid Septmber so it was perfect for me to see what it looked like!

Re: Need Advice and Opinions about changing our date.(LONG)

We are waiting to change the date, my fear is that I might lose one of my vendors if I don't make a decision soon.. FH wants to see the grounds in the fall but I am afraid the longer we wait, the less choices we will have in terms of what is avail most people book atleast a year in advance..

Any chance your FH will budge on October? I think October is a beautiful month both for scenery and temperature (..obviously I am partial to it ). If he is dead set against October, I'd pay the extra 1,000 for Sept...if you can't get Swan Club to negotiate on that!!

Good luck with everything!

Well, I am at a cross road at this point, my next doctor's appt is Aug 11, we are waiting to see what he says my options are, it will give us a better idea of how much time I will need to recoup. My BM said right now the two Oct Dates are avail, but Oct 2 works for the one vendor I am worried about..

urgh!! all of this is sooo

Re: Need Advice and Opinions about changing our date.(LONG)

We were going to go with August, but way too many people complained about the heat. September was a consideration, but we ultimately decided on October for a couple of reasons.
1 - Ocotber is still REALLY nice weather and in the beginning of the month, the season is still very green. It doesnt change color until the end of October going into november.
2 - Columbus day weekend!!!! We saved money by having it on a sunday, but had the comfort of having monday off. Plus it is not a popular holiday, so flights dont run too much $$.
3 - Pricewise - we were saving a ton from August to October!!

Hope everything works well for you!!!

Re: Need Advice and Opinions about changing our date.(LONG)

After reading your posts, my vote is for October 2nd:

1) It is sooo close to Sept., so the grounds should be just as beautiful as a Sept. date.
2) You'll save $1,000 that can be used for whatever else your heart desires
3) Your families won't have to deal with the craziness associated with the holidays (increased travel costs, the cost of holiday gifts plus a wedding, traveling in difficult weather, etc.)
4) It will give you lots more time to heal (I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery!)
5) The date works for the vendor that you said you're concerned about.

Also, you could consider doing a "Christmas in October" themed wedding, since you said that Christmas would be your dream wedding. Why not get the best of everything?

Best of luck to you and your FH with your decision!

Oh! Have you considered Sunday of Columbus Day weekend? I know it's not as popular to have the holiday off but an Oct. Sun (even if its a holiday) might be cheaper!

Being an October bride I have to agree that it's a beautiful month to get married - the air is cooler, colors are vibrant and you get some really nice warm days.

I saw the Swan Club last October - the grounds were filled with flowers.....

Go for it!

If it's only and extra $1000 and you will both be happy, then I would do that. You want to both be happy with the decision.
