Has someone read either of these two books?
A lady at work asked me if I read either the Scarlett Pimpernel or A Tale of Two Cities.
I don't think I read those two and she wants to know what each are about so her daughter can decide which to read. She wanted to know which would hold a 13 year old girl's attention more.
Anyone have suggestions?

I know I read both when I was in junion high, but the only one I remember is A Tale of Two Cities. I actually LOVED that book (and then we saw the movie version of it also, which was equally good)
So given the fact that I cannot even remember Scarlett Pimpernel, I'd recommend a Tale of Two Cities.

I HATED Tale of Two Cities!! I've tried several times, but I just can't get into it. Scarlet Pimpernel is fun and adventurous - perfect for a 13 year old. It's also about 100 pages shorter, if I remember correctly...better for teens with short attention spans!

I read A Tale of Two Cities in Jr High and loved it....its about 2 men from 2 different cities in love with a woman- one of them is French, the other is English and it is set during the French Revolution. They bear an uncanny resemblance to each other and their paths meet, with one dying tragically. There is a love story and some violence as well. Lots going on - historical reference to the guillotines, storming the Bastille, etc...it was great.
I saw Scarlet Pimpernel on broadway a few yrs ago when it was running- it was a fun, lots of costumes changing show but I remember nothing about it...

Heh yeah she should. Thanks for the recommendations - I read an amazon.com review of SP and sounded better, at least for this lady's daughter. Thanks!

I didn't read The Scarlet Pimpernel but I did read A Tale of Two Cities and hated it. I was an avid reader too. I really liked "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte though.

I haven't read either one. But I did see Scarlet Pimpernel on Broadway. Love those 'swashbuckling' stories!
