update with todays shopping experience...much better from Kleinfelds yesterday

Today was the first time I went dress shopping, so I went to Kleinfelds. I have to say it was a horrible experience and didn't enjoy one bit of it. ....especially the person assisting me. I can tell she tried working with me, but it was obvious to me that she didn't know too much. I even searched around myself and had no luck trying on any dresses.... soooo very dissappointed....
Hopefully I'll have better luck tomorrow, but just wasn't happy with anything today. Just want to cry, I feel like I'm not going to find anything.

Relax! It was only your first time shopping... I must've gone on at least 10 -- 15 shopping trips before I found my gown! I'm sorry you didn't have a nice experience at Kleinfeld's though....

tomorrow I'm going to the wedding plaza in baldwin, and sunday at flowerama's in elmont. hopefully i'll have better luck ...i hope

Well you don't HAVE to find your gown tomorrow, do you??! Relax and ENJOY trying on WEDDING DRESSES!! Come on girl -- this isn't DEPRESSING... it's supposed to be FUN and you only get to do it (or supposed to anyway) ONCE in your life so ENJOY and don't put any pressure on yourself to find your gown tomorrow.

I don't have any experience with Flowerama but Wedding Plaza... ugh. Slim pickins there.... not a big selection. Unless you're looking to try on plus sizes... they had a decent selection of plus size samples compared to most other places I went.

I went to Kleinfeld first too and wasn't overjoyed. They were very nice and tried to be helpful, but I know what I like, and they kept bringing me other things and forcing me to try them all on! After thinking I'd never find a dress I liked, I found several I liked at other stores and ended up buying at Bridal Reflections. Just be thankful that you have a year and plenty of time! Good luck.

It is hard to say if you cane get an appt. at Bridal Reflections on a saturday but it is worth the try. Call Massapequa in the morning and ask to speak with Christie she is a doll and will do her best to help you. HAVE FUN AND RELAX......GOOD LUCK

Don't worry it'll get better. My first time was in RK Bridal and I started crying b/c I was so overwhelmed and unprepared. But it def gets more fun!

I couldnt find any dresses I liked. Honestly I didnt order my dress until Feb and im getting married in June.

You ladies are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll keep you guys posted as I go alone...I'll go to the 2 stores I planned on this wknd, and if anything I'll make another apptmt to go to Bridal Reflections this coming Friday....

Hopefully it'll get better, but I can't help but cry.

Sorry it was a bad experience. But to tell you the truth, even though I found my dress I kind of wish I didnt because I loved shopping around and trying them all on. It was fun! BTW I called BR in Massapequa on at Saturday at 11:30 am and got a 2:30 pm appointment.

Hey! Don't be sad that you didn't find anything! This was only the FIRST TIME! I went a couple of times and to a few different stores...I kind of wish i didn't find my dress so quick and waited a little longer and looked around more, because I had SO MUCH FUN trying on dresses for the first time! I have gone with all my friends when they went gown shopping for their weddings and always wished it was my turn! Now I miss it! TAKE YOUR TIME dress shopping! Because once you find a dress and order it, it's a DONE DEAL and NO MORE DRESS SHOPPING and ya have to ignore all the new dresses that come out after you order yours (do I sound like I am speaking about myself? HAHA)
TRUST ME...just when you think you find THE ONE...the lady brings out ANOTHER one and you fall in love all over again...try a few more shops...Bridal Reflections was wonderful! I went on a weekday (took off from work) was thr ONLY ONE there and got the ROYAL treatment!
ALSO: don't let these ladies dictate what you try on...BE ASSERTIVE and insist on trying on what YOU want to try on!
ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY! Remember...YOU ARE THE PRINCESS!

I'm going to kleinfeld's tomorrow to try on dresses for the first time, I hope it's fun! Oh well, I don't really plan on buying from there (to far) so I think it'll be OK. They called and offered us (I'm going with my best friend who is also getting married) a free hair and make-up trial if we come in early, did you do that? was it really free?

I wouldn't suggest going to places like Kleinfelds and bridal reflections first

i went with 2 BM first and went to little shops just to get an idea of what i wanted
those kinds of places you really can't look through all of their dresses

after you look yourself at little shops then you can explain what you like

i hope everything works out.... don't get discouraged

(bridal suite in Bayshore was very nice and so was Adriennes in islip... just to look and try on) maybe a bit less intimidating
they have quite a selection

I'm sorry that you had a crappy time there.. I hate when I go into a store and have a lousy experience. I just wanted to suggest Adriennes of Islip. The owner helped me. and it';s by apt only, so you are the only one in there. i felt like julia roberts in pretty woman... when she was shopping with richard gere. so great! even the girls in the bridesmaids cottage were amazing. all of my attire and female bridal attendants stuff is from there.. good luck to you!! i went to a lot of places, and had the most pleasent time there.

thanks for the additional hugs! Jam...no i wasn't offered anything as far as free trials at Kleinfelds, the woman I dealt with was totally ghetto, which is fine, but I don't think that's suitable for Kleinfelds, or to show that side of you at a bridal store...JMO>

However...today I went the Wedding Plaza in Baldwin, and had soooo much fun! I enjoyed trying on dresses today! I told them Eve of Milady...and they pulled them all out for me, and I tried on all of them! There was one I fell in love with!! Lemme see if I can find a pic... But what killed it is it wasn't a detachable train, and I know that's going to annoy me...Here it is though


the one that I'm leaning twds is not on their website, but its strapless, silk organza, has some detail work to the chest area but not too much, and the skirt part is plain except for the detail at the trimming of the dress. but if i go for it, I want them to add more detail to the train then. but i've learned that A line suits me better, since I have hips to begin with. but oh i had soooo much fun!!!
I'll keep you grls posted! I'm going to Floweramas in Elmont tomorrow, and Im hoping to call Bridal Reflections this week for a Friday or Saturday apptmt.

to be honest, my first time trying on dresses was horrible also...i came home wanting to cry....after that though....it was great! and i found the perfect dress!!!
