Met with my first photographer and have some question

We met with Duet yesterday and were wondering if all photographers do their albums with the pictures printed directly on the page (we liked it but were just wondering if that was the norm)?

Also, how long do you have your photographer for? The package we liked said 8 hours, which if they stay for the whole reception would mean they wouldn't be able to come to the house before the ceremony. (church at 4, Reception ends at 12) Is anyone's photographer leaving before the reception is over?

Thanks for your help! We liked Duet but just want to look around at a few others first. We will probably look at Glenmar next since they're a Woodbury vendor. Any reviews of them?

Re: Met with my first photographer and have some question

We are having our pictures matted. I think the size of our album are 12x12 (something like that) and our pictures are 8x10's. We booked Marco Photography and he has both the full page and the matted, it depends on which package you choose.
As for the day, he said that he would be coming to my house around 2:00 (ceremony starts at 3:30) and he was staying until the last dance. Our reception end at 12:00 unless we have the dessert hour. If we do he stays for that.

Try Gary Leli in St. James - he's a LIW vendor. I don't think the 8 hours thing is the norm. You must feel absolutely comfortable with your photographer, otherwise it shows in your expression all day. Everyone I know who meets with Gary ends up booking him. Beautiful work, fair pricing and he is a sweety.

Re: Met with my first photographer and have some question

duet does the coffee table book album style and that is why their sample photos were printed on the actual page album...the traditional albums are actual pictures either inserted into pages or matted onto a page (which you won't be able to remove)...personally i like the coffee table album style and that is why i went with duet...also, what i booked with them included an engagement shoot so i get them for 2 days, the first is a casual day shoot and the 2nd is the wedding day...there is no time limit on my wedding day...i was surprised to hear that you had an 8--hour time frame...you should inquire with nicole or eric about having no limit on your day, they are very accommodating

Re: Met with my first photographer and have some question

Well, I saw about 7 photographers b4 I decided on one. The 8 hour day was not the norm, but there were 1 or 2 that had that and you could pay them overtime and they would stay. The 8 hours usually starts at your house and the overtime would be like cake cutting and garter toss....if you wanted that photographed.

The albums do come in a variety. I have seen A LOT of albums (my mouth hurt from smiling at everyone "This is so beautiful, oh this is so beautiful!!") and it really depends on your taste. I personally like the square album where the pictures are mounted right on the page with no boreders, but many people still have the albums where the pictures are inserted into the borders on the page.

Most imortantly you should feel comfortable with the person/people youchoose. To me, the most importatnt hting was that I get to meet with the person who was actually going to shoot my wedding and see his work. Some ppl told me they use free-lancers and will choose one for me 1 month b4 the wedding...I didn't even consider them. Choosing a photographer was the worst part of the process for me but I an so happy and at ease with my coice. I went over budget but at least I have peace of mind for the next 18 months! Good luck!

Re: Met with my first photographer and have some question

That's the first time of I have the 8 hour time reference about Duet, you should really ask them about that. I personally prefer the photos printed on the page as opposed to the slide in photo albums, but that's really a matter of preference. A lot of places will also charge you more for an album that has printed pages than the slide in. I liked that the style I wanted was included in the price.

Re: Met with my first photographer and have some question

We used Duet & got they Royal album which are pics printed directly on the page, & I think a lot of photographers are doing it this way because they can be more creative w/ the page layouts. As far as time limit, there wasn't one in our contract w/ Duet, but they did leave after our cake cutting(maybe an hour before the whole wedding ended, not exactly sure), but they had plenty of dancing shots of everyone & captured every moment of our wedding really. I believe they were w/ us for a total of 9 to 10 hours.

Re: Met with my first photographer and have some question

I have also never heard of a time limit with duet. I will have to check out our contract to make sure and insist that they stay until at least close to the end since we have alot of important things at the end. But I don't recall there being anything mentioned about that.

As for the albums- i will have to agree with the girls above. I saw a few different types of albums- most do the square album where you have 1 picture on a page slipped into a boarder. I personally, didn't want that style. Duet's is different because the pictures are mounted right onto the pages and they can put as many or as few on a page which I really liked. I think it's more of a "story Book" rather than a "picture book".
