Gonna have CAKE issues at SandCastle, I think -- MsZ wait till you hear this!

My MOH went to a wedding at SC last weekend and she gave me a full detailed review of everything and everything was wonderful --- EXCEPT FOR THE CAKE. She said the cake was AWFUL!!! She said no one at her table ate it and everyone said the same thing -- THE CAKE SUCKS!!!!

I am soooooo pissed! When I called SC a few weeks ago, I asked about tasting the cake and they said they "don't normally do that". So... what am I supposed to do? Assume that the cake is going to be good and have this disaster instead? No way! But I'm paying for a cake -- it should at least be edible!!! FH is very upset because that's one of the things he was really into.

SOOOOO... this really sucks because now this means I'm probably going to have to get an outside baker to do my cake. I refuse to have a crappy cake especially since I'm not even having a viennesse hour.

Has anyone hired an outside baker to do their cake? How much is it costing? Can anyone recommend a good, affordable, and reliable baker??

I doubt they do their own baking - most caterers use outside bakers. Ask your BM which bakery they use and go there to talk to them. Maybe it was the flavor they chose that was so awful. Don't get too excited until you do some investigating!!

I was in one of my best friend's wedding last month at the SandCastle and the cake was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was yellow cake with strawberry mousse. Everyone loved it!!!!! It probably was the flavor that the other couple chose.

i would ask what bakery they use and go and sample a cake that might be similar to what you will be ordering.

You should just check which bakery they might use. I absolutely loved that cake that they served at my friend's wedding. I wish I could have brought some home!!!!!!!!!!

Actually I told FT ( their sister hall) the same thing- I didn't liek the cake.

They told me that they use Sancastle Bakery on Merrick in Valley Stream and I can stop in and try things to make sure I get what I want. I haven't done that yet-

I really dont want to get and outside baker so I think I'll check it out soon

Here's a cheaper alternative. Ask them if they will allow you to bring in a cake but that you want to use their cake as presentation. Then you go to your local baker or better yet Costco (I LOOOOOOVE their cakes) and order like 2 or 3 undecorated sheet cakes. Have the catering hall serve the sheet cakes. Just an idea!!

oooh! I like Divabrides idea. Hey now thinking about it, I wonder if my friend did this at her wedding because at her Bridal shower, they had the same cake flavor and she said she had gotten it at BJ's or something. She would never tell me the truth though. I don't know why, it's not a big deal!!!

I have never heard of someone requesting a cake tasting. The cakes given to you for free at catering halls are pretty basic, so if I were you I would find out which bakery they use and check them out.
