Is it true that the closer you are to the wedding date the better the rates are?

I'm sure if a photographer is not booked up by a certain day he drops his prices just because he needs the business for that day....(IE reception halls were drastically dropiing their prices on 9/11 because they were having trouble booking that day).

I would say that that is true for any vendor...they have an availability so either they make a little or absolutley nothing..

I'd say you have more rooom to negotiate, but there is a chance the one you want will be booked. Not really a chance I was willing to take.
ETA: Plus a lot of vendors raise their rates every year, so if you book before the rates go up, you'll save $$ too.
