Prenatal Vitamins?
are you supposed to take them when you are actively TTC or in preparation of TTC?? I'm confused....

I read that if you are of child bearing years you should start taking folic acid regardless of whether you are TTC or not. I currently take folic acid and women's one a day. I think in total that's 800mcgs of folic acid.

I took them 6 months before TTC. I planned on preparing my body 6 months prior (i.e. eating healthier, exercising more and taking the right amount of vitamins needed). I was taking a potent brand of vitamins for years until my doctor told me that it was too much, so I balanced myself with the pre-natals. you can start with a brand over the counter. I got a prescription for mine. It's up to you, remember it's purely by choice.

My Dr. told me start taking a vitamin with floci acid 3 months before TTC. I took a womens one a day and an extra folic acid until she told me I just needed the one a day.

I am taking them now, began about a month ago.. so it will be about 7 months of taking them before TTC and then I will continue from there. Its just a multi-vitamin, not a medication, so there really is no harm in taking it early.
I would check with your doctor, to see what they suggest.
