What month did your baby start crawling?

Lyla's 9 months this week, and she is scooting backwards on her belly sometimes by pushing up and back. She also goes from sitting to her belly, but doesn't go forward and she doesn't go on all fours. She also turns in circles on her belly. She used to hate tummy time, so I'm happy enough if she just stays on her tummy for 20 min at a time. But, I feel like she's on the verge of crawling any day now. I think we have to baby proof soon.

sounds like you are right around the corner! I think at around 10 months, one of my sister's children started this scooting thing on her side. It was a riot and she could go VERY fast. She never graduated to all fours crawling. She eventually just got up and walked!

Sounds like childproofing is in order!

Paul was 6 months old when he started to creep on his belly and he was almost 7 months when he first crawled.

Some kids totally skip the crawling thing and go straight to walking....so, start researching those baby proof items!

I did hear that babies that skip crawling have a hard time with reading. My dad told me that - who knows where he gets his "parenting" info though - he doesn't even remember our Birthdays!!!

He went to a speed reading seminar or something and learned that. The professor made them crawl around on the floor - can you imagine?

Lynds was about 8.5 months old.

Julianne was a late starter...did not start until around 11 months old...and she scoots forward like a frog...she doesnt move her right arm and left leg at the same time...she rears back on her legs and springs forward!

she is 14 months old now...and loves to walk around- IF we hold her hands...(above her head)...so I guess she will be walking on her own soon

Joseph started crawling at 6 months (he never did the scooting backwards thing), at 7 months he was crawling up stairs, and at 8 months learned to "cruise"--walking while holding onto furniture. He is 10 months now and has been cruising for a while but has only taken 2 or 3 steps on his own. Should be any day now! I never heard that about having difficulty reading if they skip crawling. I can't see how the two would be related...

I know Misha - I can't imagine. Probably the theory of some crazy speed reading nutjob!!! I'll ask him sometime and see if he remembers!

Maiah was 9 mos. old when she started crawling. She took her first steps 5 days before her first bday!

Ryan crawled at 8 months...now at just about 10 months he is cruising around holding on and trying to let go and get his balance! It seems once they start going, they just want to GO!!

AIdan crawled at 8 months and he was walking at 11 months. Now at 20 months -- he hops, jumps, RUNS and will not sit still!! LOL I thought crawling was bad...

Annalise cruised before she could crawl. She wanted to skip crawling all together but gave in at 8 months since she could not walk yet. She was cruising by 7 months and walked just before her 10 month birthday. Your baby may do things out of order or skip them too.

Damien has been doing the military crawl. He also spins himself all over the place He tries to get up on his knees so I think he will be crawling soon

I know this sounds wacko too, but there is also a higher incidence of ADD or ADHD in children who did not crawl as babies.

(DH has/had ADHD....we have tons of research on it, that's how I know. And no, he didn't crawl!)

Wow, interesting info on babies who don't crawl.

Sean will be 8 months next week. He scootches backwards on his belly. I'm not sure he'll ever crawl - he seems completely disinterested in the idea. He absolutely loves to stand whenever he can and prefers that to sitting. He'll go to his belly from a sitting position, too, but then he'll roll over right away and try with all his might to sit up again!

It definitely sounds like it's time to babyproof, Niha! We just bought a ton of stuff last week!

(DH has/had ADHD....we have tons of research on it, that's how I know. And no, he didn't crawl!)
