Yesterday could have been really really bad

Yesterday Luke was in his room alone, I was in our bedroom which is right next door. I should have known it was too quiet but all of a sudden a heard a horrible sickening crash and then him crying hysterically. I ran in and his tall dresser was pulled over, everything on top was all over the place and he was under it. The f*%king thing was heavy and at 5 months preggo kind of scary in retrospect to be lifting, but at the time, I lifted it like superwoman with one arm and yanked all 26 lbs of Luke out from under with the other arm. OMG!!! Do I need to tell you my heart was racing and I was crying hysterically myself? Miraculously, he was OK, not a scratch on him, just really scared. The saving grace was his nebulizer box (the breathing apparatus), which he pulled out of the drawer the day before was sitting in front of the dresser and broke the fall of the dresser somewhat, I mean it stopped it from landing flat on him. I'm not normally the kind of person to sit there and say "What if this happened?" and play out a scenario of how things could have went but last night I could not sleep, I kept thinking of that sound and then seeing it on top of him, not knowing how hurt he'd be...

I was just saying to DH the night before that we needed to anchor it to the wall b/c he I caught him standing in the 3rd drawer up 2 days ago (how he was able to get in that drawer, I still dont know)

So lots of stuff broke on top and I think the dresser might be in bad shape, my brother & DH are taking it out in a little while but my boy is OK. Thank you God!

Can I add that this happened on the heels of coming home from the park and having a very scary encounter with a road rager in a Yukon on Merrick Road on my way home. I don't drive like a grandmother but this guy had a serious problem, came up on my butt from out of nowhere, and then went into a full rage when he couldnt get around me. It was Merrick Road for God's sake, not even a highway. He got around me, slammed on his brakes, I didnt even know what to do. A woman driving next to me in a minivan had her window down yelling "I got his license #" People are f'ed up, this guy was a nut. Would he have cared that a pregnant woman and a toddler were in my car if he ended up in an accident with us? Who even knows these days?? He turned off and I was even tempted to follow him and call the cops but I decide it was a better choice for mine & Luke's safety to not do it. Then the dresser accident. I was really not having a good night last night.

Today definitely seems to be a better day so far but please please please everyone anchor anything that can topple to your walls. Evn if you child isnt climbing or showing any interest in climbing. Ironically, most of our stuff is anchored, 2 other pieces off furniture in his bedroom and lots in the living room but it obviousy needs to be everything.

Luke surely had God and his Guardian Angel looking out for him. I was so glad to read that he was unscathed.

Re: Yesterday could have been really really bad

I am sorry about the crazy day. Please take it easy for a few days before you put yourself into labor. Glad Luke was not hurt. Thank your for sharing the lesson you learned. I will have DH check the dressers when we setup Annalise's new room. She is already a climber.
