HAWAII-GOOD DEAL?

My FH and I would like to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon!

We received the following quote from a small independent travel agent near where I live...I was wondering if a larger, more well known agency has access to better deals?

Also, since we're "honeymooners" - I understand that there's special treatment, upgrades, etc. available. The travel agent advised that upgrades aren't guaranteed - depends on availability when you arrive, etc.

Here's the deal:

October 4-9 Kaanapali Beach Hotel - GARDEN VIEW - daily breakfast

October 9-13 Kauai Sheraton - GARDEN VIEW - daily breakfast

October 13-14 Honolulu Hyatt (across from beach)

$4,304 includes roundtrip airfare, inter-island flights, compact car rental, transfers, insurance (doesn't include "resort fees")

We decided to forego the ocean views to save money - plus if there's a chance for upgrades -that would be great!

How does this sound?

If you have a travel agent who gave you a great deal, would you please let me know who you used?

I think that is a good deal!

We are paying about the same as you and we're only going to 2 islands and a shorter time away (approx 10 days).

Excellent deal. We are going in May and paying a bit more but I think because of the time of the year.

What is a resort fee?

I'm quoting this information from a Hawaii brochure which I got from the travel agent. (She also told me about it when quoting us prices.)

"Some resorts in the Islands charge a daily fee (from $10 - $25 before tax) to guests to cover the cost of special amenities and services. These resort fees are mandatory and will be added to the guest's bill at check out.

You should inquire at time of booking whether your hotel charges such a fee, and consider this in calculating the price (and value) of your vacation."

I think your package is on target and a fair deal. We are going in May and are staying at the Hyatt Regency and the Four Seasons and we are paying about 1k more than you. Also Garden view. I think you did good.

We are paying a few hundred under that for 2 islands.

I think thats a good price. If you could get breakfast included that would be even better (we had it and realized it would have cost $45 a day!)

Also realize that they only give you one upgrade (per hotel) What I mean is it goes garden view, mountain view, partial ocean and deluxe ocean (full ocean view). If you have garden they will only upgrade you to mountain and if you have mountain they will upgrade you to partial. The only way you would get upgraded to full ocean is if you booked partial (hope that makes sense). We booked garden at one hotel and partial at the other. We ended up with mountain (for the garden) and full ocean (awesome room) for the partial that we booked. I asked at both hotels (Hyatts) and this is how it was done. I don't know if other hotels work differently OR if they have LOTS of availability if they would upgrade you further. Just keep in ind you are by far not the only HMers and not the only ones looking for upgrades. That is why they upgrade the partial to ocean and garden to mountain etc. Hope this makes sense.

Don't worry, you aren't in the room much and Hawaii is so beautiful even if you stay in a box
