Tax question for 2003 brides...

We were not married all of last year, so do we file our taxes together or separate?

As long as you were married for part of the year, you need to file jointly is what our accountant told us.

Re: Tax question for 2003 brides...

yep.
You can file as Married by filing separately... I looked at our tax tables and it saved us NO money.

So we filed married jointly.

File joint or Married filing seperate. Which is a better tax saving s for you.

Just knwo that if you file MFS, you can not claim certain deductions, like student loan interest.

My friend got a better refund filing seperate, even withoug her interest of 1,000.

I don't know what to do yet...we're going to see an accountant on Sunday.

We were only married for 24 days in 2003.

You have to file married especially if you changed your name. It can be seperate or jointly. We just went on Wed night. We found it better for us to file jointly and will get a nice refund

You need to file as a married couple. Be careful with filing as married filing separate, because the tax rate for that category is even higher than the single rate!!

Yeeks!!

That's good to know! We're going tomorrow and still weren't sure what we were going to do. I think we'll file married/joint. It's going to stink not having my "own" tax refund check, though! Lol.
