BTDT Moms Breast milk storage ?
As you know I am having all 4 wisdom teeth out on Friday. So for 24 hours I can't BF Damien because of the anesthesia. I have been pumping each day so he has enough to drink. Because he really doesn't get bottles I just have the starter set. My ? is can I put all the collected milk in one storage holder(like a rubbermaid pitcher, covered of course) and my sister can just pour out as much milk is needed? This will only be Friday -Saturday morning( I can start BF'd again a t around 10am) TIA

Re: BTDT Moms Breast milk storage ?
I would get a package of Gerber Milk Storage bags instead. what pump do you have?you can pump into the bottles that come with the pump, then pour into the storage bags in the amount that you need per bottle. I would be nervous with all my breastmilk in one container like that- God Forbid it tipped over or something got into it- then you would not have any. Also, you should continue to pump the day of your surgery and throw out (I hate to even suggest that) the milk. You will be engorgaged if you don't and chance getting plugged ducts or infection, but your supply could be effected. Make sure you stay hydrated since that effects your milk supply alot. Has he ever had a bottle before? If not, you will need to give him the bottle a few times prior to your appointment. Good Luck!!!!

Re: BTDT Moms Breast milk storage ?
I second everything that michele said...i would use the storage bags that are compatible with whatever pump u r using and freeze some of the milk. It can be defrosted as it is needed...and you will need to pump and spill your milk for the one day you cannot nurse....

Re: BTDT Moms Breast milk storage ?
Thanks Ladies
I know I have to pump and *gulp* throw away the BM. The Dr already told me this. Such a waste Not only because of engorgement but because I have to get rid of all the bad stuff (anesthesia) in the milk
I already have some of those bags
He has had a bottle a couple of times and he does OK. He had one the other night when I first went to the dentist.
I'm more worried about how he is going to be as opposed to my mouth pain

Re: BTDT Moms Breast milk storage ?
BM can also only stay in the frig for 8 days. So ANY left over bags put into the freezer, date and use them next time you want to go out with DH or need to take medicine. I am glad your sister is able to help you. This would not be easy to deal with all of your own. Make sure you pump, even at night, just like you would if he was nursing- even thought that is super hard to do.
