Re: President Bush's latest.
I wonder if those studies were done on women who only had abortions, or women who've had abortions and given birth as well...

Re: President Bush's latest.
Why is this important? Breast cancer is the most common cause of death of women in their 40's. One in eight women will develop breast cancer. Women need to have all the information and make up their own minds about their life choices, not be spoon-fed politically manipulated statistics and incomplete data.
Parents need to have all relevant information to help their daughters make the best decisions in the event of an unintended teen pregnancy. Currently, parental notification legislation is on the books, or soon to be on the ballots, in a number of states. In one of NCI's own studies (originally created to help disprove the ABC link) 100% of teenagers who had a family history of breast cancer and had induced abortions later developed pre-menopausal breast cancer, which is usually more virulent than the post-menopausal variety. This information is such a hot potato that it is ignored in the abstract of the article ( see Daling et. al., 1994), and has never been dealt with or explained away.

Thank goodness for the courts and the internet, which allow information to circulate beyond the control of the politicized abortion advocates, who have grabbed control of much of the official apparatus of scientific medical inquiry. And thanks also to state government officials in Minnesota and Texas who are more concerned about women's lives than succumbing to current medical standards of political correctness.

Hmmm, I find this wording interesting. I cannot speak for all pro-choice people, but I myself am for choice. I do not think that makes me an abortion advocate.

Re: President Bush's latest.
Again, just to clarify: The scientific evidence regarding protective effects of pregnancy on breast cancer was taken from women that had given birth. When compared to their age-matched cohort who had never given birth, the women that had had children had a lower incidence of breast cancer (after other variables such as genetics and environment were factored in).
Women that have had an abortion, and then go on to never give birth, presumably fit with the second group (although this has not been extensively studied, because scientists try to not pursue this kind of politically-charged research). Women that have had an abortion and then go on to give birth at a later time, presumably fit with the first group.
Sorry to have gotten everyone off the topic but it just bothers me when political groups miscommunicate science for their own agenda.

Hmchick Agreed! I am thinking of going myself, was very active in pro choice all through college.
First I want to say I copied that wording of the ABC website, just to let everyone know I didn't know how to link! However what your saying is advocating? NO ?

Re: President Bush's latest.
I guess I walk a fine line, I am not for or pro abortion. I AM for womens rights, among those a right to choice. I have noticed that my views have shifted since my semi-radical days in college, where I was adamant pro-choice. Maybe that has come with getting older, and baby fever . Not to be all feminist, but I feel as women we all need to protect our rights.
That said, this is such a personal topic w. so many hotbutton issues. I cannot even begin to tell you how prolife my MIL is, and we cannot even think about having a conversation about it. DH cringes everytime we are in the same room and it comes up, as if he is waiting for me to run and get my big prochoice button and picket sign.

I agree, do I think I would ever have an abortion - no. But if a friend wanted to get one, would I helpo her yes!! I think any women needs the right to choiose what is right for her. Also if the gov't can take away reproduction rights, what is next?? The right to marry who I want (well actually not all women have that right.), right to vote, right to work outside of the home.

Re: President Bush's latest.
Regardless of my opinion What I think the problem is that
1) pro-choice are not made aware the links between abortions and breast cancer
2) And pro-life put way to much emphasis on this link (sole factor it is not)
So that leaves me right back to where I always am STATE OF CONFUSION LOL
