Re: President Bush's latest.
I'm not entertaining the drama.
Back to the topic at hand. Interesting article from NARAL.ORG:
Minnesota Health Department Changes Web Site – Again It all started this past fall. The Minnesota Health Department pushed their health credentials aside in favor of their political agenda by posting inaccurate information about the (non-existent) link between abortion and breast cancer on their web site. Controversy ensued so they “fixed” their web site by including information which was no more accurate, and actually more misleading. A scandal followed, and internal e-mails revealed that certain health department employees took issue with the misinformation on their website. Now the health department has changed its web site again. Though the confusing rhetoric remains (“…some studies have suggested…increased risk of breast cancer…other studies have suggested there is no increased risk…”) at least a note has been added that the National Cancer Institute finds no link between abortion and breast cancer. Finally, Minnesotans will have access to the truth – if only they can wade through the ideological inaccuracies. The Associated Press has more.
Propaganda really chaps my arse.

Actually, this isn't a bold-faced lie - there have been many studies about this. It has to do with the circulating hormones during pregnancy, which can be protective against breast cancer. The thought is that if a woman aborts a pregnancy, she does not have the advantage of those protective circulating hormones, thereby possibly increasing her risk of breast cancer. It has not been conclusively proven either way.
Don't mean to be nit-picky, just wanted to clear that up.

so if i never get pregnant, then I don't get these same advantages too??
so not getting pregnant increases you chnces of getting breast cancer??
wouldn't it be correct to say, pregnancy helpos in reducing breast cancer, not abortions cause brest cancer??

That was actually in Sex In The City last week. The Dr. asks Samantha if she had kids, she said no, and he said that pregnancy can help prevent it, or something like that.

Unfortunately, yes...
Not having children: Women who have had no children or who had their first child after age 30 have a slightly higher breast cancer risk.

It's a lie when they come out and say that abortion leads to breast cancer. Sure studies have been done, but nothing has been proven either way. It's also important to point out that the National Cancer organization has come out and said that their lie was indeed that, a lie.

Yes, of course it is just as correct to say that pregnancy helps to reduce breast cancer, but they did put their own little spin on it. Doesn't make it wrong, just makes it propanganda.
And yes, there is some evidence that not getting pregnant (at least by the time you are 35, I think) can increase your risk of breast cancer.
Sorry...the scientist in me made us digress from the actual topic of the post...

No, they don't. I'm sure the testing that "said otherwise" was funded by an antichoice organization or three. Ugh.

Re: President Bush's latest.
Medical experts and others have independently leveled serious charges of impropriety against the NCI in recent years even accusing the once respected agency of concealing evidence of environmental and occupational causes of cancer. [3] Since 1957, NCI officials have used heavy-handed means to cover up extensive evidence of a second way abortion raises breast cancer risk, which exists independently of the protective effect of childbearing. Although the agency provided at least partial funding for most of the American studies, taxpayers have not been informed that 13 out of 16 studies report risk elevations.

I know. Kind of makes you question the 35 and older rule. All those selfish business women who want to put off having a family until their 30's - it's gonna give them breast cancer.

My friends mother died of breast cancer, and it had to be the worst thing for her to ever have to go thru. I couldn't imagine having to go thru it.

Re: President Bush's latest.
Mary Davenport, M.D., an obstetrician/gynecologist in private practice in California, authored an article for The American Thinker entitled, "The Breast Cancer Whitewash." In it, she provides a scathing criticism of "the beltway scientists who control the NCI (U.S. National Cancer Institute). She repeated the allegation of international expert and endocrinologist Joel Brind, PhD that "other researchers believe in the ABC link, but are politically intimidated from speaking up because of NCI control over their funding." She says, "The ABC cover-up has been systematic, deliberate and disgraceful. The behavior of many medical organizations and publications has been timid, afraid to confront NCI and reproductive health establishment gurus. Heads need to roll."
We agree that the behavior of the NCI's corrupt leaders has been criminal. Heads do need to roll. The Bush Administration needs to thoroughly clean house.
The Illinois Leader's article, "Women's Group Condemns Docs for Hiding Abortion-Breast Cancer Risks," discusses our press release last week slamming the Minnesota Medical Association for falsely claiming there is a consensus in the medical community that abortion does not raise breast cancer risk.
Read these articles and be sure to send them both to your friends in Minnesota.
Sincerely, Karen Malec Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer www.AbortionBreastCancer.com
