Yes. If I can manage to go in April, this would be my third march on Washington.

That is great that you have marched 2 other times. I will defintly look into going. It scares em to see my choices taken away from myself and others.

Agreed! I am thinking of going myself, was very active in pro choice all through college.

my my tensions are running high in this room. I have a question for shelzyp, what is the response that you would hope for from the pres.

I don't think there necessarily needs to be a response.

But the point I was making is that this really upsets me that an individual who wants to take away my choice is in office.

I'll look into the details - I usually rcv information from the local NOW office. NARAL is good for info too. Maybe a bunch of us could go - I know I have at least one friend who would go...and a few others who might be able to go.

I personally don't like the man but I think you are right that there need not be a response.

I've never done anything like that before, and even though I don't know how feasible it is 2 months before my wedding, I'd be interested in knowing more about it.

Re: President Bush's latest.

I don't get this board lately. When someone brings up a good discussion topic, everyone gets personally offended when someone doesn't agree with them and all heck breaks loose. Grow up, ladies. Noone is out to get you.

President Bush is a person too. He is entitled to his views and he makes them well known. That is why we have a democracy: if you don't like his views, you vote against him. Although your vote counts, it is not determinative because the majority wins.

For all of you out there who do not want their choice taken away from them, there are plenty of people out there who believe abortion in murder. Personally, I am pro-choice but I will not attack anyone who disagrees. We are all allowed to have our own views.

Re: President Bush's latest.

Egad Mary. No one attacked anyone.

I believe we all know that you can vote him out if you don't like him - but we all saw how that worked during the last election. He didn't win the majority vote, yet he made it into office.

And while he's in office and continuing to speak out against women and their rights, you're going to have people who are disgusted and fed up and frustrated - because at PRESENT TIME - there isn't anything we can do about it...EXCEPT voice our opinions. In this, our free country.

I love that our "free" country tries to control what we can do with our bodies

At least we still have freedom of speech, so here goes. He's an idiot. I hate him. Always have, always will.

That's why I said it was ironic that she said "free country" - our president wants to make sure gay people don't have the "freedom" to marry who they want and doesn't want women to have the "freedom" of deciding what they want to do with their bodies.

Re: President Bush's latest.

Maybe he has the "right" to go out and support them, but it still makes me uncomfortable. He is the President, as such he is the symbol for our country. By walking out and supporting them personally (as George Bush) he gives the impression that he, as the president, supports the pro-life cause. I just dont think that is right. It seems that he has a lot of personal issues (gay marriage, pro life, IRAQ) that he is forcing down the throat of the american people, like he is using his presidency to enforce what he thinks is right, not whats best for the country. JMO.

You got me there.

I apologize for my curtness, but my comment was not based on this post alone. There have been a few interesting posts recently that have been spoiled by people's defensiveness which was totally uncalled for.

It seems that respecting the opinions of others has been lost on here a bit lately.

Re: President Bush's latest.

I think as the President of the USA, it was not appropriate for him to go outside and applaud. We all already know his stance on abortion.

If he is looking for votes from the "square states" that's fine, but he lost the rest of us (open minded/free choice people) with this behavior.

Oh for Godsakes with the 'drama' accusations...
How come everyone else can say what they want...But I make one comment and everything spins out of control? All I said was it's a free country, he's allowed to do that.
That shouldn't be offensive to anyone and was certainly not called for a sarcastic response.
Enough with everyone playing "Mom" ...

ETA: My comment could have been followed by..."But he's a public figure and shouldn't be going around expressing personal opinions..."
Or
"And good for him for sticking by what he believes in"
everyone automatically assumes what was intended and gets defensive...

I was only referring to your insinuated name calling....as in:

"You're being a real ------- Starhead"

Considering you've taken to deciding what's offensive and what's not, (ie, That shouldn't be offensive to anyone and was certainly not called for a sarcastic response) then I don't have a problem letting you know that I find what you said to her offensive!
