Question about Washer/Dryer Installation...
How much does it cost to install a washer/dryer hook-up in a house that doesn't already have one? I have NO idea what the ball-park figure would be (I'm thinking it would be a lot) but I thought maybe someone would know. Are we talking like, a thousand dollars? A few thousand? Basically, there is a wall in the house on the other side of the bathroom that we thought might work, since the water lines have got to be right there and ready to tap into for a washer. Plus, it's close to the outside wall for the dryer vent.
Please let me know if any of you know how much we're talking... it will help DH and I to make a big decision! Thanks!!!

Re: Question about Washer/Dryer Installation...
We ahd moved our w/d hookup to the completely different side of the house but where we ended up putting it there was access to the boiler room directly so probably like you it wouldn't cost as much as if you would have to run new lines. A friend of ours did it and a lot of other jobs all for $5,000. that included the W/D, putting in a new bathroom and shower where there was none before, putting in another shower where there was none before, converting to gas and running all of the plumbing for it, putting in new base board heating in the living room and some more stuff. Although he really discounted everything for us, I can remember him telling me that the job to hook up and run new lines for the W/D would be a bit pricy since they would have to tap into a line so it can drain into the cesspool. I think it will depend a lot on where you can pick up access to the cesspool. He told us that it is the most expensive part, especially if you have to rip up floors like we did.
All in all it was worth it. It freed up a lot of space and made access to the W/D easier.
wish I could help more. My guess is that it would def. be over $1,000 to do.

Re: Question about Washer/Dryer Installation...
I really think it mostly depends on if your installing a gas or electric dryer. Electric is alot easier to hook up cuz if you get a gas dryer, they will need to run a gas line to the dryer. I personally like the gas dryer better. My DH and his uncle ran the gas lines themselves for our dryer. I'm not exactly sure on the price though.
