What's the 411 on Pre-Cana.. can you do it in 5 easy lessons?

When is the right time to do Pre-Cana.. 3 Months before? 6? 10? For those who did it.. was it a good experieince.. ho-hum.. average.. or a complete waste of time?

Your church should tell you when you can do it. My experience was better then I thought.

We are staring our Pre Cana Feb 1st our wedding is in Sept . They only do it 2 times a year and the next one is after our wedding so this is it. Im excited to see how it goes. Ask your church how it goes there. You priest should know or he can find out for you. What church do you attend?

HI I justr did my Pre Cana Yesterday (Sat) all sessions wrapped into one, Yup from 8:30 am - 5:30, we couldnt do it with our church because FH works nights. We had a lot of fun believe it or not and we got it out of the way (we are getting married in Nov of next year) we did it at St.Cyrls in Deer park and because we are getting married at a different church we only had to pay a $50.00 offering... that included breakfast lunch and coffee breaks, and we jot a lovely gift, and were announces in Mass I would say its Def. worth it to check them out... But they only do Sat. a few times a year call them up and check them out

I'd try to go as soon as you can. Because it's not done when you want to, there's a schedule. Some parishes have couples that do it out of their homes. Or you can go to a h.s. that has it on weekends or nights. You can go for 6 hours all on one day (but most of the time with that you have to go to mass the last hour, 5-6pm. If you dont mind that cool. I know couples that blew it off and went home. I don't know I dont mind sitting there for an hour and I'd be scared they'd notice and report me! Or you can do 2 hours on a weeknight - we are doing 2 hours on the first 3 Thursdays in February (in White Plains).

You can call your priest, he should know all the info and help you find a suitable date.
But because the times are set already it's better to do now or you might forget (like I did) and then by the time you rmember you might not be able to fit it in!

As for how it is like, it depends on who the leaders are. You can get Attila the Nun that says you'll go to hell if you have pre-marital sex. Or you can have a cool married couple that don't really touch upon that subject. It's really all about different aspects of marriage (ie: the blending of 2 personalities, fiances, "good" fighting, that sort of thing). At least that is what I have been told.

sign up as soon as oyu can - our diocese had a long list and you had to wait like 3-4 months just to take it - we wound up doing the 1 day and it was so-so, we got some stuff out of it but i was appalled at the mis-information they gave on birth control and methods (i am a health major originally though!)

We are not getting married till OCtober and we already took Pre-Cana - My church only offers it 3 times a year so I didnt want to wait till 1-month before - SO we took it early

Precana was better than we both thought it would be. We did a one Saturday session. We just wanted to get it over with asap, so we went in Oct , but the wedding isn't until July,

I know, I know Stupid question!!!! but what is a pre-cana? Is it the
pre-marriage counseling sessions? I know the church we are considering
says to go to the priest at least 6 months before the weddings to get you
prepared. BTW, would I need it if we are just having a ceremony and not
a mass?

We didn't like the thought of going to Pre Cana one bit. We did a one day thing on a Sat. We were complaining the whole way there, but the funny thing is we actually didn't mind it. We kinda liked the couple that ran it and it wasn't soo bad after all.

I believe that if you are getting married in the church or by a priest, you need to have Pre- Cana.
