How is the reception hall price calculated

It's price per person, 18% and 8.75 tax, I know that much. But is the 18% taxed?

I.E.
80pp * 100 = 8000 * 18% = 9440 * 8.75%

or

80pp * 100 = 8000 * 8.75% + 18% of 8000

Did I confuse everyone yet?

Re: How is the reception hall price calculated

I think the 18% is usually taxed... they get away with it by calling it a service charge (as opposed to a tip). It's BS!!!

I dont think all halls rip you off, but unfortunately, most do.

Re: How is the reception hall price calculated

I believe you're right.
80pp * 100 = 8000 * 8.75% + 18% of 8000
You don't tax gratuity.

Re: How is the reception hall price calculated

the 18% should not be taxed. gratuity is added to the pre-tax price, and tax is calculated w/o gratuity. i was a waitress, that is the way we used to do it, and i consider it unethical for it to be calculated the other way. good luck!

The gratuity should not be taxed. I remember asking my dad about that since he works in a restaurant.

Re: How is the reception hall price calculated

i think there is a thread from a few months ago..

some halls dont tax it... but if your hall calls it a "Sevice charge" then they can tax it

CHCC calls the 18% a service charge and taxes it.
