important info for traveling to Aruba and Barbados
As of February 1, 2004, Barbados will require a passport and as of March 1, 2004 Aruba will require a passport. These islands will no longer allow you to travel with your original birth certificate and drivers license. If you have your honeymoon planned for those destinations, you should get your passports as soon as possible. It takes about 3-4 weeks normally to get your passport.

Re: important info for traveling to Aruba and Barbados
10 years
To get your passport you have to go the post office, get some papers to fill out, go to a photo place, have 2 photo's taken, then back to the post office with the papers, pictures and a money order. I am not sure how much a passport is.
They also require your original birth certificat and social security card.
They will keep those items and when they mail you your passport they will mail those items with it

Re: important info for traveling to Aruba and Barbados
There is an express passport place in the city that you can get one within a day or two if you need it ASAP. I don't know where it is but I can try to find out from someone I know who went there.

It is 100% true because my travel agent called me yesterday to tell me about this and to make sure that FI and I had ours.

Re: important info for traveling to Aruba and Barbados
I just spoke to the Aruba Tourism Authority and they told me that it was a rumor about needing a passport in order to enter Aruba. The rumor some how got to Liberty Travel (my travel agency) and they told all of their customers but they are now fixing that and they are suppose to recall everyone and fix it.

Re: important info for traveling to Aruba and Barbados
I also just got an email from a Travel agent who said it is not true, that the info regarding Barbados is true but Aruba will still be accepting Birth Certificates!
I may apply for it just in case...I thikn the piece of mind is worth the 60$ or whatever it is. And maybe having a passport will encourage us to do more out of the country travel!
Thanks Lisa!

Re: important info for traveling to Aruba and Barbados
You can get a passport application online from passportexpress.com. It's $150 for 1-6 business day and $110 to receive it within a month (not cheap) and $59 for regular delivery.
There is also a place called Passport Plus on 49th street (btw 5th and Madison) that can process passports faster. Their number is 212-759-5540. I don't know how much they charge but I assume it's probably similar.
