Need your ideas for a Cinco De Mayo 40th birthday bash!

My BIL is throwing my sister a surprise 40th B-day party in May, and using a Cinco de Mayo theme. I am in charge of invites and favors.....throw your ideas on me!!!

Do you need a lot of invites? If you are only mailing a few, maybe do something that is 3 dimensional. Like putting a mini marachi inside a box with straw with the party info? Or a little chile pepper inside the box with the invite? You might want to encourage everyone to dress the theme too.

Or if you need a lot - I would suggest picking a motif. LIke a chile peper or a sombrero or a mariachi or whatever..and then using that on the invite, etc.. That way its easy to make everything look really coordinated.

As for favors - what about getting a poloroid camera and setting up a little photo station with a few sombreros and mariachis. Then everyone can take their photo and bring that home with them.

Or you can buy some jalenpeno candies and give out one of these lollipops to everyone.


Or give out little bottles of tequila with the worm at the bottom.

And if you are doing decor too, I read in Real Simple magazine last year that paper flowers and Cinco De Mayo are somehow connected so you can do those really cheaply.Paper Flowers

Stef, you are absolutely amazing. I am going to be picking your brain a lot. I only need about 40 invites, so that first idea is BRILLIANT. Where can I find the mini mariachi? Oriental Trading maybe?

I want to do the paper flowers, but I think the place my BIL booked includes balloons so it might be too much as a centerpiece. Maybe I'll do the flowers with pins in them and hand them out to all the women at the party to wear, and give Sombreros to the guys. Oh the wheels are churning!!!!!!!

Oriental trading has a mini marachi but its under their luau section so the design on it might not work for the mexican theme.

Maybe party city?

If you cant find mariachis, maybe you can include a mini mexican flag?
