LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT
OK I saw the movie last night and I thought it was OUTSTANDING!! i just loved it..
In the end when they are on the boat to leave middle earth, why does froto go, and does everyone thats not man go? like legolas for example?
And that Angel of deathy guy ( you know the one that no man can kill) was it really because she was a woman she was able to kill him?
And aragorn's girl (i forgot her name) did she become mortal or was she still an elf when they got together?
Sorry for all the questions.

LOL...I had a lot of the same questions. Dh read all the books, so he was able to answer.
After Frodo possessed the ring, he could never be the same. He could never be happy again in his beloved Shire. Legolas and Gimli became such good friends that they went on their own boat. With the fading of the power of the rings, the elves time was up. I think the dwarves stay though (except for Gimli).
Arwen gives up her immortality to be with Aragorn.
Not sure about the second question. Dh thinks that it was only a boast, but that was a good point (about her being a woman)!

I don't think it was death, but just "somewhere else". I don't think we are supposed to know exactly where it is they go.
But I never read the trilogy so I could be wrong.
I thought it was anti-climatic in the end. I mean I thought it would have ended with Aragon becoming king too. But I guess the part with Froddo Baggins finishing the book needed to be there too.
I love Samwise. He was the best.
Oh yeah I missed the spider thing. I hate spiders, fake or real. So I went to the bathroom then and to get a soda. So I missed what happened. I asked FI but he was like "they captured him". Oh well duh I saw that part. But where did Gollum go and how did Sam find Froddo?

Dh said in the book it said they were going to a "new land". His take was that it was kind of like heaven, but I guess it is open for one's own interpretation.

Sorry for all the questions.
I think people have answered the first part...the elves must leave Middle Earth...all we know is that they are going into the sea..I think Frodo goes to heal him - if that could be done, before he died and for a period of reflection and peace and a gaining of a truer understanding of his position
As for the Ring Wrath...I think it was just cute that Eowyn said she was a woman and killed him...i don't think he necessarily died at that point...but just his form disintergrated...like Sauron did after Isildor cut off his finger...but when the ring is destroyed then all 9 die
and yes Arwyn definitely loses her immortality...to be with Aragorn...
I thought it was anti-climatic in the end. I mean I thought it would have ended with Aragon becoming king too. But I guess the part with Froddo Baggins finishing the book needed to be there too.
the book is not so anticlimatic...b/c there is an entire section left out where the Hobbits have to fight for the Shire...You can't leave the story at Aragorn...the fans would have killed Jackson...since he already left out a huge chunk of the ending
Oh yeah I missed the spider thing. I hate spiders, fake or real. So I went to the bathroom then and to get a soda. So I missed what happened. I asked FI but he was like "they captured him". Oh well duh I saw that part. But where did Gollum go and how did Sam find Froddo?
Shelob stings Frodo with her poison that incompassitates him...and wraps him in her web...Gollum had convinced Frodo before that Sam was lying and eating more Lambas bread than he should have...so Frodo tells Sam to leave...but then Sam figures out what Gollum is up to and he races back to Frodo...on the way Frodo realizes that Gollum lied to him and while he separates...Sam fights with Gollum and he falls....but he is so corrupt by the ring...Gollum finds his way back to Mt Doom
Sam finds Frodo "dead" and realizes that he has to continue Frodo's journey in his honor (this is more from the book than the movie)
Frodo is found by some Orcs on patrol and they know that Sauron wants him...so they take his stuff...but they do not get the ring

Thanks, that part I was confused by a bit. I just figured that Shelob did something to Gollum or he ran away after seeing Shelob. And that Sam followed Froddo anyway since he's a good friend and knew Gollub was 2 faced (or split personality) and wanted the ring.
Sam finds Frodo "dead" and realizes that he has to continue Frodo's journey in his honor (this is more from the book than the movie)
Frodo is found by some Orcs on patrol and they know that Sauron wants him...so they take his stuff...but they do not get the ring
Yes that part I saw. OK I figured there had to be a big part at the ending that was in the book that wasn't in the movie becaue they did mention things like wanting to save the shire, but the shire was never touched during the whole time as far as the movie-goers knew.
So Yabbobay, from the standpoint of someone that read the trilogy, did Jackson do a good job in turning the books into a movie? Did he do it justice? I never read them so I wouldn't know. Just curious.

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT
I think Jackson did a great job...as good as it could have been...
my two problems are in the first movie...he had Arwyn ride Frodo to Rivendell to be healed by Elrond...in the book Frodo rides himself...even in the state he is in...and still manages to hang on while the horse is racing the ring wraths...I think that shows the strength that frodo has...and why he should be ring bearer
the second is the ending...I think they cheated the hobbits by not showing that they had to battle for the Shire...after they had helped save Middle earth...everyone leaves them and they have to fight Sarumon themselves...
I feel that it cheated the Hobbits a bit...

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT
Erica I agree. I think that they should have included the fight for the Shire. Even though I read the books for the first time when I was a teenager (you know..the time of the dinosaurs, lol) I remember that part very well. It would have been a fitting tribute to the four of them to show what they had become at the end of their journey. There is such a huge change, especially in Merrie and Pippin and while you do see some of that from the movie, the fight for the Shire shows their true courage.
However....I loved all 3 movies and think Peter Jackson did a stupendous job of bringing Tolkien's books to life. I did not get up once during any of the 3 movies, and cried and cried at the end of Return of the King! I plan on going back and seeing it again too.

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT
One point that wasn't well explained.
The boat at the end of the movie is going to the Grey Havens, which is like heaven for the Elves. They left the Grey Havens for Middle Earth ages ago, and now they are finally returning. Elves are immortal, they don't die. But the Havens are paradise, and so it's kind of like Heaven.
Also, because I'm picky and such, Liv Tyler's character is Arwen. Not Arwyn. I know I'm being a dork about it, but Arwyn suggests confusion between her and Eowyn.
OH, also, the thing about "No Man can kill the Witch King of Angmar". The technicalities of English being used as a plot twist is common occurence in British Lit. The only other one that comes to mind is in MacBeth where MacBeth is told that no man of woman born can kill him, yet he is killed by a man (name escaping me) - who was delivered by C-Section, hence not technically being born "of Woman." So when Eowyn, not being Man, has the strength and courage unexpected of a woman, kills the Witch King of Angmar, the prophecy has been fulfilled - No Man *has* killed him.
Okay, I'm showing my inner Dork.
The movies are Excellent, but do yourself a favor and read the books. They are truly wonderful.

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT
I saw the movie too. One thing to add regarding:
"Sam finds Frodo "dead" and realizes that he has to continue Frodo's journey in his honor (this is more from the book than the movie)
Frodo is found by some Orcs on patrol and they know that Sauron wants him...so they take his stuff...but they do not get the ring"
Sam thinks he dead but the spider got him with her poison that doesnt kill you but paralyzes you so Sam thinks he is dead and seams dead. But the Orcs know that Frodo was zaped and wrapped by the spider to eat later they say the spider likes the flesh warm and soft not hard. So they take Frodo to the Sauron. They strip him of his things but you dont find out that Sam has the ring until he shows up to kick some butt. I have the books but havent gotten to read them yet. I was a bit disappointed in the end too. But overall it was an awesome trilogy.

My FH is obsessed with knowing what happened to the "crystal ball" that Pippin (sp?) shouldn't have looked into. Gandolf took it, then what?
Thanks!

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT
The crystal ball is a Palantir.
It is a communication device of the Dark Lord Sauron. Kinda like a phone - looking into it enables you to communicate with him. That's why he was talking to Pippin. It's pretty much a dropped point after Gandalf takes it from Pippin and they ride to Gondor.
The books are REALLY good. You should read them. There's so much more depth to them.

I'm hoping in the Extended Edition that they show Aragorn looking in the Palantir and showing Sauron the Shards of Narsil reforged....I thought that was pretty powerful in the book
