Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

Electric - and I HATE it. I always grew up with a gas stove until we bought our house. And what kills me is that we have gas heat, so I have no idea why the previous owners didn't put in a gas stove! I would love to replace it one day, or at least get the kind with the flat top cook surface. The burner coils just annoy me.....

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

I grew up with gas but this house has electric. I don't hate it. Broiling stinks so we usually just shovel a path to the bbq. Cleaning is awesome though. I live for self clean. We also have the flat ceramic top and it is wonderful when prepping.

I guess there are bonuses to each type.

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

I have electric. When we moved in, the stove had coils. I grew up with a flat topped stove and HATED the coils so we quickly replaced it.

I've never used gas, but I hear it's super fast.

We have an electric stove with the glass top radiant heat burners.

I grew up with a gas stove and miss it! I'm still not used to the electric.

I find the electric burners to cook much, much faster than the gas...

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

Electric, but not by choice. I would prefer gas, but house didnt come with it. I grew up cooking with gas and find it much easier to work with. Electric tends to get to hot and more easy to burn food. I end up cooking everything on low now and it takes longer, but at least i am garenteed it willn't burn.

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

I grew up with gas (stove I mean)

Now we have the flat top electric as well. It's ok I don't love it. I don't hate it. What I don't miss is coming home and smelling gas because a pilot light blew out.

ETS: What I do miss is that gas is def. faster and cooks more evenly.

Electric and also hating it. I grew up with gas stoves and had them in any apartment I ever lived in on my own. I can't gte use to how much longer it takes to cook things and not being able to see the flame when you adust and taking awhile for it to actually lower when you want to lover things. And the not cooking evenly. I don't mind the electric oven as much. For some reason, I feel like it does cook more evenly - just takes much longer and broiling isn't quick either!!

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

I grew up with an electric stove and thought I always hated the gas ones.

But now in DH's house he has a gas stove, and I have to admit, it cooks SUPER fast, and when you turn the burner off, it's OFF, immediately. The food doesn't even continue to cook.

BUT... I'm still not used the idea of an open flame on the stove top. Also, the smell of gas you get when you first turn on the burner freaks me out. I still think the house is going to explode or something.

The gas oven takes a CENTURY to preheat though, but once it's heated, it cooks very well and I think it browns better than an electric oven.

One thing that's bad about the gas stove, is that you can't really turn is down very low for a nice slow simmer. If you turn it too low, it goes out. So I'm still trying to get used to the whole thing.

Personally, I still think an electric stove is safer.

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

We have an electric flat top that I hate! I grew up with electric coils then later grew to love a gas stove. I hate the flat top because if anything boils over or spills on the hot top it immediately burns and adheres - at least with coils it drops below into the pans. I also hate it if I have 2 or 3 pots and pans going, and then turn off a burner and have nowhere to put the hot pan. The stove top is still retaining heat so it keeps cooking and I sometimes just want to leave it in the pan without continuing to cook! Wish I could get gas and one day I'll look into what it would take to get it in the house.

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

I am so used to using a gas stove cuz when I lived with my parents we had a gas stove. When we bought our new home the stove was wlectric. I'm finally getting used to it, but I prefer a gas stove instead.

Re: Poll: Is your stove gas or electric

We have an electric stove and while I've adapted to it, the part I dislike it if you turn a burner off, you have to move the pot or the food will continue to cook. It doesnt instantaneously go off like a gas stove. When you have a few burners going, where do you put the pot you are removing from the heat? Also, along the same lines, you cant just lower your heat in a split second like you can with a gas stove.

Tammy, besides one running off the gas in your house, and the other electric.... If you have a gas stove you can actually see the flames on your burners when your stove is on. You don't see flames on the electric stove. That's one way you can tell.

Not anymore Tammyjill. Most modern gas stoves have electronic pilot lights and also auto ignition. Years ago I think you had to use a match or a flint.
