How are you beating the Holiday weight gain
I am trying so hard not to gain those extra pounds through the holidays. I went on the South Beach diet 4 weeks ago and lost 10 pounds. But then came Turkey day and well I have gained 3 back. So far holding on and I am not putting the rest back on but I am weak. Tell me your helpful tips
PS Working out would be a great option and a great stress relief I love kick boxing and spin but I have a knee injury. What else can I do

Re: How are you beating the Holiday weight gain
I am in the same boat as you and getting married also in May 2004. I am stressed out because lately I have been really hungry and when I eat I feel guitly because I know I want to lose 15 before the wedding. So...what I do is that I write everything down that I put in my mouth and I joined Weight Watchers and hopefully I will see results.

Re: How are you beating the Holiday weight gain
Don't stress yourself because that will just make it worse. of course exercise is the best thing possible... But if you can't just try walking or some small things even in your own home., like crunches, leg lifts, squats.. You can do all of these at home. I try to exercise as much as i can but sometimes i go for a week or two without going, But i also have a very physical job so i don't feel so guilty. I am a preschool teacher. so i am constantly running after kids all day long, i don't sit for more than 10 minutes at a time... so i am constantly going. But i suggest that you dont starve yourself. if you do then you will be more inclined to grab anything. You should try to eat 3-4 small meals a day which are hopefully well balanced and low fat. have healthy snacks such as pretzels, yogurt, fruit, vegetables. Some people go for the atkins and other diets but i believe having a well balanced diet with smaller meals will be better. everyone needs carbs and protein... you really should not eliminate them it is the type which counts.. it is much better to have whole wheat bread than a donut. Remember to drink lots of water and get sleep.. when you are tired you tend to overeat and your body needs rest in order to lose weight.

Re: How are you beating the Holiday weight gain
Thanks for the helpful hints. Once the holidays are over it will be easier. There are so many tempting treats around. I try to be really good on the weekdays so the weekend parties aren't so damaging.

Re: How are you beating the Holiday weight gain
Water, water, water, water......
Also, increasing your fiber intake also can help with weight loss. When you eat more fiber you feel fuller faster, plus when fiber is being digested it take away the bad stuff in your body. This is why when you eat more fiber you go to bathroom more.

Re: How are you beating the Holiday weight gain
Honestly I have to say i don't deprive myself of anything... If i want a cookie or a brownie i eat it, but i don't eat 10 of them, i have 1 or 2... And as far as food and meals go, I also try to limit myself.. I take small portions and I only take a few samples.. For example my family is having a holiday party tomorrow... If there are 10 different kinds of food i may just sample 3 or 4 of them.. i don't really try all of them.. And i try not to snack on potato chips and things like that.. If they have vegetables and dip or pretzels i try to go for that instead... AND i Don't Drink COFFEE or TEA at the dessert time.. If you ever notice everyone tends to have a cup of coffee or tea at dessert time.. Actually if you skip the drink and have just water or another beverage you won't feel so full.. Coffee and tea can tend to make you feel fuller and does not really do much to satisfy the craving... Especially if you load your coffee or tea up with whole milk, cream and/or lots of sugar.

Re: How are you beating the Holiday weight gain
I try to avoid Christmas cookies altogether if I know I won't be able to eat just one. My job has me running around like a chicken without a head, and sometimes, I do skip meals, but I try never to skip breakfast. The holiday rush has me getting extra exercise; shopping really does burn calories! Not to sound like Dr. Phil; but know your triggers, and avoid them! If you know where it is and when you eat, or what foods, avoid those things. This is the first year that I haven't put on weight during the holidays. It is working for me, just keep really busy!

LOL!!!
I'm not trying either... I start Jan 5th 2004....I know that I can lose the weight I want to in about 4 months so the hard part is going to be KEEPING it off for another 5 months after that!! For now, I'm wearing the biggest, loosest clothing I can find in my closet to hide the chichos!! LOL!

Weight watchers has helped me keep the holidays pounds off so far. Plus, I've heard alot of great things about curves. If you can, check into that. Good luck!
