My bird's eggs hatched today!!! She had babies!!! Pic.
I'm so excited, this is her third set of babies! She's a Gouldian Finch, this is what she looks like:
and this is what her mate looks like:
This is what their babies from their first clutch ended up looking like (we still have them):
The male and female take turns in the nest with the babies! I can actually see the feeding their little ones! It's so amazing to watch these little guys!
These babies are no bigger than my thumb nail, they're the size of a thimble, but I hear them chirping for food!
YAY, I'm a grandmother

This not actually her nest (she only had 3 eggs), but it's an idea.
And this is what the babies look like after about 4 days (kind of ugly but sweet!), their crops are filled with food that's why the bulge!
Okay, I'm done with being LIW's resident National Geographic!

I just hope they do well...these birds are known for being bad parents, they tend to abandon their babies...and finches are extremely difficult to hand raise!

We keep the babies, we have a large enough cage so that it's more like an aviary, with hanging ivy (all plastic, so these soft billed birds can't eat it) and all sorts of plastic plants.
We've kept all so far...and out of all the babies, they've all been male...only one female in the entire aviary! And, she only mates with the same male (and these birds weren't supposed to be loyal!!!)
