?? about Blood & pregnancy
My friend who had the stillbirth 2 weeks ago will not have her results of the babys tissue/blood for another 2 weeks...
But she said something stuck in her head;;;;
The doc (one in the group she goes too, but not hers, but he was on call and delivered her daughter) said to her right after baby was born, Do you know that your blood type is RH NEgative? With some sort of concern in his voice... '
She had no clue....but has been reading up on it since and has found her blood type, A- is very rare, and if he baby has a positive blood type, there could be a problem...
Do any of you girls know anything about this? Shouldn;t this ahve been noted on her chart? She has a huge lists of questions for when she goes back for her appointment, but I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about this.
Thanks!

Re: ?? about Blood & pregnancy
RH negative blood can cause I problem in pregnancy. I know that women get a shot to help prevent a problem when this is the case.
My x-boyfriend's mother had her first pregnancy end in a still born birth because of the RH factor. It has something to do with the mother's blood attacking the baby's or something like that. Our resident OBs can probably answer this MUCH better for you though.

Re: ?? about Blood & pregnancy
Thanks Michelle!! That sounds similar to what happened to her..but in our opinion, they should have investigatged and noted her haveing that blood type....It will be even worse if Amalia died because of a doctors mistake....we feel it could have been prevented....my friend feels to sum it up: Her body was slowly killing her baby...but 2 weeks before her sonogram, her doc said it was all healthy and had a strong heartbeatwhen she mentioed at 19 weeks she still had not felt the baby, he said she should feel it any day..and about 5 days later she felt something, assuming it was her baby.

Re: ?? about Blood & pregnancy
my cousin had two miscarriages before they determined she had a RH issue. she was given a dose of shots to regulate this. i can't remember exactly how much shots she had, but i thought it was more than one - and something she administered to herself.

Re: ?? about Blood & pregnancy
I am RH negative and have been through this . If your friend's DH was RH positive she would be required to get a shot of RhoGam I believe around her 6th month and after she gave birth if the baby was RH postivie as well. Also she should have gotten a shot after her miscarriage

Re: ?? about Blood & pregnancy
Yup just as Michelle said.... I just read about this in one of my pregnancy info books. I've always know my blood type was B+, but in one of my first appts that blod was drawn they had it tested for type and it was charted.
Here is more info on RH Negative Blood and Rhogam for your friend if she needs it.
