I am so frustrated I could cry. Sorry, long.

Ok, as most of you know, my office is moving next week. I was shown the setup 3 weeks ago by my boss, and was given a pretty favorable seating arrangement. I had a great little office right across from him, and the rag that does no work ever, was around the corner from us, a little bit removed. Let me preface this by saying I was given this persons job because she is horrible and as luck would have it, my boss was fired when her boss was able to expand. She does nothing all day but her personal stuff, things for her website etc. When given projects they get tossed aside for weeks at a time. She shows no initiative, comes in late every single day, and has made it no secret that she has no interest in doing this as her career. She also makes terrible mistakes in her work, that will eventually cost us money.

Fastforward to this morning. I was shown the final seating arrangment, and a huge glaring change was made. We had to give up 3 offices to another company, so seating had to shift. In this process I was moved all the way down from my boss, across from people that I don't work for and that the lazy ass does work for. She was given the spot right across from him in the sweetest location in the office. Now, this really wouldn't annoy me so much, but for the fact that she is constantly, CONSTANTLY jockeying for position with me. She is pissed that her job was given to me...and since then has done everything in her power to make the situation uncomfortable.

Now, my boss will take the position that he took when he told me about how she was going to get screwed "she's lucky to have a job like all of us are, so there really isn't much we can do for her". Do I even bother to open my mouth about the fact that she was so obviously pacified in the process? It really infuriates me that he just won't approach her with an ultimatum. Get your **** together or get out. No, instead, she gets a sweet little location all to herself.....placed right in front of his office, just to keep her quiet and happy.

My only hope is that she keeps screwing up enough and he can actually see it now.

Can you suggest that it would be more efficient for you to work closer to your boss and for her to work with her people? Throw in a few power words like more productivity, etc.

Maybe she was actually placed close to her boss so he could watch her. Just wait and see. You might just get a good show when she gets in trouble!

Is there any sort of documentation that she cannot do her job correctly? If not, it would be hard to fire her unless proven she is making your dept lose money.

Also, it might be a blessing in disguise. Maybe your boss wants to keep an eye on her and when he/she sees how useless she is, will fire her.

I'm sorry you're upset but I think your boss is doing it to keep an eye on her. Like when teachers put the bad kids in the front seats.
Now he'll be able to see what she does or doesn't do all day.

Maybe it is a blessing in disguise. I'm going to reserve final judgement when I see the damned place this afternoon or tomorrow. But for right now, I'm PISSED.

Having been in management I can tell you that I always put the troublemakers and slackers near me so I could watch what they were doing. My better workers were more spread out because I trusted them to be able to work independently and not need babysitting.

If your boss is aware of the problems with this person it seems likely that that may be why she was put there. Who knows..maybe the side benefit is that she will be gone soon and then you can have the spot!

Don't fret. I think what you said earlier is right. I think maybe they are going to put her there just to see if she is going to screw up and then maybe her let go.

oh it stinks that you get the raw end of the deal with the seating - but speaking as a boss myself - the bad kids are positioned in my view - it's the ones i trust that are down by the bathrooms!

this will RUIN her job - this will DESTROY her EVERY DAY because she wont' be able to waste your firm's time on her personal stuff. And if she does she'll get yelled at and at least there will be some fireworks now and again! I have a sneaky suspsicion this woman won't be around much longer Misty.....They just need the proof. Sometimes the boss has to work in annoying ways to get somebody fired. UnFORTUNATELY in this world of senseless lawsuits and the likes, we can't just let somebody go when we know they arent' doing the job. It's infuriating.

Maybe you'll make some new friends down at the other end. With that personality on you it shouldn't be ANY problem at all!!!
