Ok, my job is supposed to be moving in 11 days....and...

...we haven't seen a single box yet, no one has seen the new office, and the head of the company is coming tomorrow and no one knows why.

Should I worry that this is not going to be a very Merry Christmas?

The head of my company never has a day off.

And I think they wouldn't move us if they were going to fire all of us.

Have you seen the company's last earnings report? Are you in an office with top level executives? Usually you can just tell when something's going down, b/c they all get together alot behind closed doors.

I really hope this means nothing and that your job is fine. But, here's a few , just in case!

Depending on the size of your company you may have a company come and in move and pack up all of your stuff. Or if that's not the case maybe they just don't want all boxes around until it gets closer?

Have they specifically told you are going? If they have, its probably that they are just late in getting it all together. Plus, if you work in a large building, the teamsters have to do all the actual moving anyway.

When I moved my company I didnt have the movers bring supplies in until 3 days before the move. I didnt want people boxing and unboxing things for days. Once those boxes show up everything slows down to a crawl and the focus shifts to the move instead of everyday work. I did have a few purge days in the months before the move.

We have moved 2 times before this in the last 3 years, and both times we had everything over a month in advance, and we had seen the space. We know the new address, but no one will give us permission to go see it, and we aren't allowed to order change of address anything yet. We were sold after we were informed of the move, and yes I work with high level executives.

Oy.

It does sound like they might be downsizing then. But, all of us here at LIW will cross our fingers that YOUR job remains safe!

It's no secret that heads are going to start rolling, but we really thought we were safe here.
