I need to purchase a food processor - i know NOTHING about this. Can anybody suggest a good place to buy this? Or a brand?

Bed, Bath and Beyond is a good place to look. I have a Cuisanart that works wonderfully.

I think Cuisinart is probably an "industry standard" in the food processor area...
I don't know much about them either, tho.

I have a black and decker food processor that has been a real trooper for over 10 years! It's seen better days but it works wonderfully!

You want to be sure to get the correct or the best size for your use.

There are mini-chop versions that hold 1-2 cups of food ($20ish). Then I think there's 4 cups ($40ish), 7-8 cups ($80ish), then 11-14 cups ($200ish). These are estimated prices.

They can have several features - shredding, slicing discs, salad shooter attachments, etc.

Definitely bigger is better in this area. I have a chopper for onions and that is pretty small, too small for most things. My larger food processor just broke (it was probably in the $50 range) and that was a perfect size. My aunt gave it to me after my Grandmother passed away and it held together for about 3 years (not sure how long she had it though). I probably won't replace it because I have a blender now that works just as well.

Jenny...

I don't have a food processor because the one I want it expensice. As Lunatrek says KITCHENAID to me is the BEST. I could get a $50 on like some other name brands they have out there but its not the same. So I am waiting to spend good money on the KitchenAid Food Processor. The one I want is $189 on sale but its a bigger verson. Kitchenaid does sell I think the smaller ones for $99. I love Kitchenaid products and they come with great warranties. I have my Kitchenaid blender that I LOVE and the Kitchenaid Standmixer that I also LOVE. JMO.
