Weekend Vacation Suggestions
Where can DH & I go for the weekend, that is inexpensive, off the island, and not to far. I don't want to fly anywhere.

Re: Weekend Vacation Suggestions
Normally I would love to, but we always go gambeling, so I was trying to think of something else for us to do. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Re: Weekend Vacation Suggestions
Lake Mohonk is nice - steven king goes there to write and they have filmed some movies there - Road to wellville etc - it is a nice resort Mohonk Moutain house
Here is a little description of it: Transport yourself back in time to Mohonk Mountain House. Built on the deep blue waters of Lake Mohonk in 1869 by Albert and Alfred Smiley, this grand 251-room Victorian castle is one of America's oldest family-owned resorts.
Mohonk Mountain House is located 90 miles north of New York City on the spectacular Shawangunk Ridge near New Paltz, New York. Surrounded by thousands of acres of unspoiled forest and winding trails, Mohonk (or "lake in the sky") provides a unique setting for relaxation and renewal of the body, mind, and spirit in a beautiful natural setting.
Offering 85 miles of hiking trails, tennis, golf, lake swimming, boating, horseback riding, carriage rides, ice-skating, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, spa services, a fitness center, children's programs, and more, Mohonk is perfect for weekend getaways, romantic interludes, family reunions, conferences and meetings, weddings, and special events. Mohonk is open year-round.

Re: Weekend Vacation Suggestions
Philadelphia is really cool - lots of nice resturants, good shopping and very historical. www.gophila.com has promotions for 2 for 1 nights in hotels with promotions at resturants to. My DH and I just went for his birthday weekend and it was a blast - a new city to explore.
Also, Newport, RI and say in a Bed & Breakfest - www.innsofnewport.com have the best in B&Bs and you can get great rates in the winter- great shops, resturants and mansion tours which are unbelieveable!

Re: Weekend Vacation Suggestions
Well Jim & I have our little getaway.
We go up to Nyack, NY.
There's that huge Palisades Mall up there. We book ourselves into a little hotel, nothing fancy and act like run away lovers heh.
We have breakfast at IHOP and peruse that huge mall for a day or so. Do some xmas shopping or just induldge ourselves. We always travel up there with a bottle (or two) of wine and ask for a small fridge.
It's not exciting for others, but for us.. it's perfect. Just to get away from the City and have 'us' time.

Re: Weekend Vacation Suggestions
My favorite weekend get-away is Block Island, RI. You take a ferry off of Montauk and you're there in about an hour. It is so quaint, lots of B&B's, gorgeous views from all points of the Island, good shopping and eating and the residents are SO nice!
