MOTHERLESS AND FATHERLESS DAUGHTERS - Please read - info about 1st GTG -- LINK TO POLL ON PG 2-Please vote

I am so sorry I have been out of the loop since my wedding.
It took me a while to get adjusted to married life, but here I am, very happy I might add

Well, it's time for the planning of our First Get Together, mainly to talk and discuss what we go through as women, as Brides-to-Be, Newlyweds, and Mothers going through our life without our own Mother or Father beside us. (Of course, we are not TRULY Motherless or Fatherless, because they are always in our hearts

All are welcome if you feel you need to talk.
Whether your parent has passed away or you just grew up estranged, if you feel you want in, then you're IN !!!

The way I would like to do it is have the first GTG as a get to know one another type GTG.
I would need to know all who will attend, and as previously discussed do some kind of Buddy system, in case we are in some sort of depression or just need to talk to someone asap, we can call our "buddy".

I'm open to all ideas and thoughts

I am thinking we do this after the holidays, perhaps Mid-late January.

Please try to respond to this one thread. FMs are welcome if you need to talk to me privately, but when it comes to GTG info, try to keep it here so it's centrally located.

All in all, I hope we can really form a wonderful community, and take a step towards healing ourselves and each other.

My parents are both alive. However, my father deserted me, my sister, and brother and is causing hell for my mother. I could definately use someone to talk to. Would I fit in here?

It's so funny you posted this today - I was just thinking about it last night!

I'd definatley like to do a GTG - It will depend on when and where, but I will totally try to make it wherever if I can!!

I am concerned that this may become a tear fest...(hey I can cry SOOO easily)...so is this going to be a directed meeting, with like a speaker...and how do we keep it a BIT up beat.??..(at least for the first meeting)

Phyl, this is more of a feeling that I have than anything but I strongly doubt this will turn into a cry fest. I say that because we're a group of women going through what is supposed to be the happiest time in our lives and we're in an optimistic frame of mind. We'll have so many great things to talk about-beautiful weddings, beautiful babies (like your Julianne!), the first year of marriage, etc. I think it'll be fun.

What a nice idea. Both my parents are alive and here for me but I think it's great what you are doing. FMIL just passed away in June and FH's father died when he was young, so I wondering how he will deal with it on our wedding day.

This is such a great idea!! Thank you for thinking of it and setting it up. While both of my parents passed on 4yrs ago and it still seems like it was only a year ago, now that I am getting married it feels even worse and it is tough as I am sure many of you know.....I would love to be a part of the GTG - Let me know when it will take place and hopefully I can make it! January will be busy for me at work and two bachlorette parties but i will try my best to make it. Thanks again for doing this!!

Hi Ladies,

I am so happy for such a positive response.

I went through my wedding planning without my dear Mom and it was so, so, difficult.
I had my sisters, a wonderful FI, and these boards also, all who really got me through it.

So I know how it feels
And now I'm in my first year of marriage, and contemplating children. It would be so nice to have Mom around to ask questions, advice, etc. . . .

Tear Fest -- hmmm.......
I think some tears are possible, but I think since we will all be there to uplift each other, we might be able to try and concentrate on the good things, give each other tips on how we each deal with it, and just know that there are others out there going through EXACTLY what we are. I think that is a comfort in itself.


Well, I see January may be a little challenging, so I can make it Febuary also.
Let me think a little and I'll post some possible dates with a poll.
Date with most votes will be the date we choose. I think that's fair, no?


Now, I ask you all, how would you like the setting?

Would you all like to meet in a restaurant or someone's home?
I have no problem hosting this at my home, but I warn you all, I live in the Bronx, so it may be far for some of you.

If that's the case, we would have to go somewhere. I can also check with my sister, who works with the library and see if we can get their room, although that's not very "comfy"

Just give me feedback on what you all think. I am very open to ideas.

Also I'm pretty set on doing this on a weekend, Saturday or a Sunday afternoon. Weekdays I think are too hectic with work.

Let me know - I'll be back with some dates to throw around.

Hey everyone. I am in...

My father died when I was 4 years old. My mother raised me and my two sisters and brother. They were 10-15 years older than me though. My mother did remarry when i was about 10, and i love my stepfather very much. they are still together and he is a great man. But i still miss my dad. i missed having a dad to grow up with. and although i am especially happy , this is the greatest time in my life, getting married and starting my life with my fh, i wish my dad was around. i wish he was here to share this wonderful time in my life.

So the bronx is fine for me.. i am up for anything. house, restaurant.. I am in Manhattan so the bronx is okay for me but whatever works best.

I know you probably hear this all the time, but he will be there in spirit. Can you believe I TRULY felt my Mom on my wedding day?

In any case, if everyone is OK w/the Bx I will host it at home.

What a great idea this sounds like. I am having parent issues because of the wedding. My dad died when I was 12,(Im 42 now), and my mom left my brother and I homeless to go live with her boyfriend, now husband, when i was in High School. He has to be at my wedding. I have been visiting my fathers grave.....even though we didnt have a good relationship when he died, I am mourning both my parents during this stressful time. This sounds like a great group. I think It would be a problem for me to go to the bronx, and a Sunday would be better for me too, but perhaps I would be able to be a part of the group somehow in a chat group or with a buddy or someting if you had that option or an online option with the group? Just a thought. Either way. Great idea!

Don't worry Kathleenmarie, we'll find a way to include everyone.

We don't need to do it in the Bronx at all, just if it's in Nassau or wherever, it will probably be at a restaurant

Sassy the Bx would be fine. This would be great! I lost my father 2 years ago and I truly have tried to blockout the thoughts of him not being there to walk me down the aisle or our dance. This would be a great outlet. Thank U!

I live in Brooklyn so the Bronx is okay for me as well!!! I am open to other locations though!! Wherever it is, I'm pretty flexible!!!
