Update on yesterday appt. (sorry, long)

A few girls have FMd me to see what is happening and how I am doing so I wanted to give everyone a quick update.
My weekly NST was perfect. At one point the nurse thought the baby was turned since his/her heart beat was in a "lower" position than normal, but a sonogram proved that to be incorrect. So..........
I will say also that there is NO plan for this week- thank Godness. They are giving me a few more days for the baby to turn. The doctors and nurses all agree that they have had cases that the baby turned the day before a scheduled c-section or even the morning of so there is still a chance, but most likely it will not happen so I need to be more prepared emotionally than I am.

I met with the head of Neonatal and she was super nice and VERY understanding. She said that she had a c-section a few years ago and understands my concerns about the baby being taken so quickly. She said normally they would take the baby after a few "bonding" minutes but with mother's who are more vocal about the issue or who have strong feelings about wanting the baby in there with them she will be flexiable. Of course, I am one of those moms! I know they need to do a sugar level so we agreed on 30 minutes with me, baby goes to neonatal for the testing and then I can ask for the baby back in recovery if I feel up to it. And the baby can still room-in with me, again if I am up to it. She said they will take their cues from me but that I need to make sure I do not try to take on too much too soon and that if I need rest I ask the nurses to take the baby. Also, she said NO formula, only glucose water will be given to the baby, if needed to stablize the sugar levels. So that is also good.
My meeting with her was very positive and very reassuring.

Next I had to wait, wait and wait some more to meet with the head of OB. Now I have made it VERY clear since day 1 that I do NOT see Male OBs. Not a difficult concept really. But for some reason he mets with me, and says "So your midwife tells me you have a breech baby and we need to schedule the delivery of your baby. I don't want to do anything this week because I like to wait until week 39-40. It is just safer that way for the baby. So what day is good for you next week" He didn't ask me "Do you have any questions or concerns" NOTHING...just "let me put you in the book" so I said, "Well, I have an issue that needs to be discussed. I only want a female OB" You should have seen his face. He said, "Most people want the best surgeon" I said, "Yes, I want the best female surgeon" I think his ego was hit a bit hard, but too darn bad IMO. So he paged his collegue, who is a women to come and talk to me. What a different type of conversation. She sat down with Scott and I and first thing she said is "I am sure you have lots of questions" And she was very nice, very helpful and had no problem with my requests such as no staples. But she said "make sure you tell the pre-op nurse again about all of this so everyone knows that day"
Then I had another BPP (bio physical profile) which is when they check your fluid levels and the basic stuff about the baby. Everything was top scores so NO problem there. I even ask the tech to see if the cord was near the baby's neck- thinking maybe that is why he/she is not turning. It isn't. So this is still a total mystery.

It was a VERY long day yesterday and I felt like a 4 year old who wants to just leave the mall and go home!


So, I have a date that the baby has to turn before but I don't want to tell everyone because a) I am still trying to keep hope and b) I want Claud to be able to post a "she had the baby" post without everyone knowing the date. c) and I could begin labor on my own before the scheduled date and then that is day.

I feel the same way.. only a female OB/Gyn for me!
Its amazing some doctors make you feel like you are just a number or a product on an assembly line!

I am so glad you posted all of this, b/c I was worried about you, since you didn't call me back yesterday! I am so happy to hear that they are giving you more time!

C'mon BABY! We ALL believe in you!!! You can do it....TURN for your Mommy!!!!!

I only hope to have as much perseverance as you when my time comes. Good for you for sticking to your guns with both the doctors and the hospital

Michele I am keeping all positive thoughts for baby turning!!! I understand what you mean about a female OB/GYN. I love mine!!

I hope the baby turns!!! Don't worry about the baby's sugar level after you give birth -- it'll be fine. As for you, they'll only check your sugar while you're in labor and then they don't come near you at all afterwards! Gianna's level was perfectly normal when she was born, but was sent to NICU for 4 hours as standard procedure. Joe held her first and then he brought her over to me and she was with us for about a half hour and then they took her to NICU.

And don't be alarmed the first day if your baby doesn't drink that much. Gianna didn't even drink an ounce the whole entire day I had her and when I told the nurses in the nursery, they told me I needed to feed her more!!!! Meanwhile when the pediatrician came to see her, she told me that insulin dependent babies are slow eaters the first couple of days. Which was true in my case because my little gavone went home from the hospital at 7 lbs. 3 oz and was 8 lbs. 12 oz 10 days later!!!!!!!

Stop knocking yourself out worrying about everything -- trust me, it'll all turn out just fine and you'll have a healthy beautiful baby (screaming, most likely ) in your arms in no time.

When's your next dr visit? Make her give you an internal and that'll really start you going!!! Want to go to my dr? She's good at that!!!

You are too funny. I do have internals because they need to make sure I am not starting labor, and even though I have contractions nothing is really happening with my cervix at all. But then again, you are our inspiration for going to the doctor and then Poof! labor!!!

Michele, I just wanted to tell you to relax and don't get yourself all in an uproar over the male/female OB. Like you, I've only gone to females and didn't want a male looking at me either, but by the time I was ready to push, I could give a flying fig who the heck was in there with me as long as they were there to a) get rid of the pain and b) get the baby out!!!

A couple of my friends had told me that once you're in labor and have given birth, you could care less who was in there with you -- all dignity goes out the window. Well let me tell you, she was right. At first I couldn't pee on the bedpan because I was embarrassed, but at the end, between the leaking sieve that I was and the fact that I was peeing all over the place, I could care less who the heck was there with me! (Joe was very embarrassed and almost threw up when he had to get rid of my bedpan )

I just had to tell you that! (Now that I've shared so much with you all, I'm outta here!!! )

I will not be in labor though so there is a big difference about who is in the room for me. I will in surgery so for me, at least, it really does make a huge difference. I cannot add more stress to the situation- having a male doctor would just add soooo much for me. But not all women care about that and that is fine. This is my personal preference.

I am totally with you on female OBs. I only see females and will never be able to change on that. I am the same way and would of asked for a female too.

I guess I will wait for Clauds post.

Michele...i totally sympathize with you on the female doctor issue...1) for the OB/GYN for obvious reasons...but 2) to support women who make choices like becoming a doctor in a male dominated field...
