Did anyone have to cut their guest list???

My FH has a big family and is from a small town and therefore they know a lot of people. Our guest list is 160 pp right now and it's just so expensive!

Has anyone had to cut their guest list to save money? How did you communicate it so that your extended family's long-time freinds weren't offended?

Well, for me it was and is still extremely difficult. There are going to be people who will get offended that they aren't getting invited and I plan on explaining that the wedding just cost WAY TOO MUCH! It's a hard thing to do, because at this very moment there are people telling me they can't wait till my wedding, and they aren't getting invited.

I totally hear you both on this..we too are going to have to do our best to keep our guest list at a minimum which will be probably be difficult and offensive to some. It's hard to figure out where to trim and I do not want to hurt anybody

However, you do what you have to do. If I was made of money, well, that would be another story.

I have the same problem, only doubled. My family is gi-normous and so is FH's! We could easily create a guest list of 240 of just family! Somehow, we have to get that down to 180 max and that's not going to be easy. I won't be able to invite very many friends at all. But it's like you said, people just have to understand that wedding cost way too much to invite everyone you know!

Lets put it this way.. We are inviting 200 but hoping only 160-180 show up. Chances are there will be a portion of people who cant make it, but we are not going beyond that.

Thank you....my sister-in-law said that I should definitely NOT send save the dates so some folks won't show.....great idea - sad but true!

I'm trying to cut my list which is now at 260, but we cant figure out who to cut without offending someone. It's tough!

5 words... WE JUST CANT AFFORD THEM. Done deal. If your parents (or his want your long lost cousins fathers sister Flo, then they should pay for her plate... My mother ended up paying for her friends who she really wanted to be there, I knew them but werent close with them... If your family or his knows that you two are paying for it they will understand.

We had to cut our list due to the capacity of our reception room. We are just telling people that we have limited space and also that we want to keep the wedding small and intimate-just close friends and family. We may do a B list, but we've already cut the list down and the people who are left are most likely going to come. The people who probably wouldn't come were cut off the list long ago!

we definately did, initially we wanted EVERYONE there, people we haven't talked to in years, but when we got our quote for how much per person, we cut our list DOWN.. we started off with almost 400 people, I didn't even know we knew that many people, now we are down to 244 and we're happy at that, because, we've heard that not everyone will come, and it's tru, so we'll probably be at about 180-200 and that's fine.. that also includes some children and we're not sure what we're doing with that yet..
