I know this may have been discussed already, but I have a question for the moms and moms-to-be
We definately want kids any day now and are TTC. This will be our first month. I'm very excited and cannot wait to have a baby, but at the same time, if I do get pregnant in the coming months I am bummed that I will not be able to have a kick-arse 30th birthday party because I will be preggo (birthday is May). My college friends and I always said we would plan a fun vacation the year when we all turned 30. But at the same time, I don't want to wait until next summer to TTC. I know this may sound totally lame, but these are the things that I think about. Can anyone share about a situation they always envisioned but had to be altered due to a little one in the oven? I'd love to hear your individual stories.

yeah, it was a small event called my honeymoon!! For some reason Frank and I decided to TTC a month b4 the wedding. I think it was cause we were both very emotional due to his father's passing 6 weeks b4 the wedding. Anyway I discover that I'm preggers (like who does that on the first try??) and therefore cannot drink at my wedding or on my honeymoon. I spent my honeymoon in our state cabin throwing up while DH played poker on "C" deck!!. He also ate in the dining room alone every nite except one. The only time we were together was when we were on land. It was a dissapointment at the time, but looking back on it know, I could so not care, and dont feel like I missed out on the party.
We made the best of the situation, and you and your friends will too when the time comes. And I dont think you sound totally lame!!! You feelings are very valid!!

I don't think you sound lame. I think you sound human! Scott and I didn't have the 1st anniversary we always dreamed of- such as going to Paris or Italy because the baby is due very soon. It is okay with us- we chose to TTC when we did and are happy it happened so quickly. BUT you need fo figure out which you want more- your special party/vacation or TTC. You may also not get pregnant right away and still have your party- but that cannot be determined either way. If you will truly feel that you missed out on this special birthday party then wait until the day after the party to TTC. If not, then go for it now and see what happens.

My whole family was going to Hawaii, and we found out we were going about a year before the actual trip. Well 2 weeks before we left, I found out I was pregnant. Needless to say, it put a bit of a damper on the trip, being constantly nauseus, tired, etc. It was all worth it in the end!!!

Re: I know this may have been discussed already, but I have a question for the moms and moms-to-be
We planned a trip to Jamaica while we were TTC. I was going to cancel only if I got pregnant the first month since I would be too far along to travel. After seven unsuccessful months of trying I began to prepare for the trip to be our last fling- new clothes, serviced my SCUBA gear, etc. I found out I was pregnant 5 days before we left for the all-inclusive resort. I went on the trip as happy as could be. DH kept asking if I was OK with him drinking and diving. I told him I was able to have a great time with no alcohol and no diving because of the end result. Virgin daquiris taste and look great. We also have a great story to tell the baby about her trip to Jamaica. The ms started a few days after we got him. I think it was mind over matter while I was away. Baby dust to you !

oh I don't know......EVERY SINGLE SUMMER BARBECUE NIGHT?!?!?!!?!?
Listen, you sound totally normal. It's fine to feel this way and the reason it's fine is because it can be VERY HARD to watch everybody else enjoy their time when you are dizzy and throwing up and growing and sober.
I just keep projecting ahead to the fantastic bottle of wine my husband bought for the first time we can have a nice moment together. Which for all I know will be another 5 years.....

Re: I know this may have been discussed already, but I have a question for the moms and moms-to-be
MY GF and I have big plans for our 30th birthday. My GF's birthday is the end of July, and she wants to go to Barbados for carnival. My baby will be 7 months, and I am concerned about how it would look if I make the trip. My husband and I have already discussed it, and he's okay with me going.

Re: I know this may have been discussed already, but I have a question for the moms and moms-to-be
Thanks for the stories. I'm thinking now that it is not so much a one or the other type choice. Life does not stop when you get preggo..it just changes a bit, ok..changes a lot! I suppose this is just one of many times when we will have to weigh our options and really look at what is more important. We know we want to TTC now. Life is about making compromises and things don't always go as planned, in good ways. It is just so wierd because in college it never dawned on us that some of us may have families at the age of 30...that's what happens at 10 cent pitcher night!

Re: I know this may have been discussed already, but I have a question for the moms and moms-to-be
I know that technically we shouldn't have been shocked that we got pregnant since we weren't being 'careful'. But the baby sort of snuck in there while we were going back and forth and still trying to make up our minds about when to TTC. She made it up for us! Anyway, I found out I was prego about 1 week before we were supposed to go to Cabo on (probably) our last vacation without kids. I know it sounds horrible, petty and stupid, but I was so upset that we couldn't have this one last 'hoorah' before TTC. I wanted to be in the sun all day, drink my margaritas and eat whatever I pleased!! I also wish I could have enjoyed some champagne and wine with dinner for our first anniversary. But, you're right, being prego changes your lifestyle if you enjoy these things. You learn to adjust though. And I wouldn't trade having this baby for anything!
